Could anyone on this site please offer any fast information on a problem my son and his girlfriend have found themselves in?
They have booked a weeks holiday to Cyprus, flying out yesterday (Satruday 9th July). They live about two and a half hours from the airport.
Just before they were about to travel from home to the airport yesterday, the company they booked the holiday through, contacted them and told them that the flight was delayed indefinately because there was a baggage handlers strike in Cyprus. They said they would contact my son and his girlfriend when they had any info.
This morning ( Sunday ) my son contacted the company because they had not heard anything and the company are saying that they should have gone to the airport as the flight left later! My son has waited in all night for any info and this company did not even contact him with any news, he had to call them.
The company are saying that they can book another holiday to fly out on Monday, but they will have to pay full price and pay for all transfer charges. They are also saying my son and his girlfriend will not be entitled to their money back as it is not the companies fault!
We are trying to help sort the situation out but the company keep putting the telephone down, even though we are not shouting at them or being aggresive in any form. We just want our son and his girlfriend to get away and have the weeks holiday they were hoping for.
Can anyone please offer any quick advise? We would be most grateful for any help.
Thanks.
What a disaster. Off the top of my head I would say that the first thing to do is to get your son off on his holiday. If they can hang on until tomorrow anyway then you can ring Ros Fernihough (travel law lawyer)first thing 9am tomorrow and ask for professional advice.
Thanks for reply. I dont really want to say who company is to be made public but they are regulated. I am on the internet now trying to find a deal for today or tomorrow. Do you think it is possible to get them away today? Or is that asking to much?
Depends on the flight days for Cyprus but good luck.
If you want to send me a PM with the name of the company that would be fine and I will not publish it on here it's just that I might be able to offer you some backing

Thank you so very much for your help.
Just to let everyone know, the kids are going away at last on Monday, with another company. We are sorting rest out regarding claiming the money from the holiday company tomorrow.
I realise you are now sorted and that is good.
What I would have told you is that ExcelAirways have a Sunday afternoon flight from LGW-LCA. I checked yesterday (as I often do (sad!)) and it was showing as available at £79 each return
Oh well, glad you are all sorted now and that your family enjoy their holiday.
Ady
