Hi. I am new on this board so please forgive me if this question has been asked before.
I am looking at visiting Majorca in early June next year with my hubbie and 6 year old daughter but don't know which area to choose. We want somewhere traditional with a sandy beach and calm waters, lots to do in the day (markets, shops, walking etc.) and lots of things to keep my daughter happy. We do not want nightclubs, late bars or anything like that.
I have been told Puerto Pollensa is very nice - can anyone please help with suggestions.
Many thanks.
welcome to h/t.
have you looked at palma nova the sol tordos/ mirlos hotel they have great things for kids it's the flintstones theme it's a/l . palma nova has a lovely beach and it's not rowdy at night for all it's next to magaluf. you can always walk into magaluf in the day time. palma nova has enough shops for you to walk around.
Puerto Soller has a very safe beach, not noisy at night. You can get the old tram into Soller which is a lovely old town, fabulous ice cream parlour. No markets I'm afraid. I also would recommend Puerto Pollensa, and they have a great market
Its got everything you just said - lots of nice shops - bars - restaurants -but no mad clubs and rowdiness! and you feel as if you are in "Majorca" its not so "British" as Palma Nova and Magaluf.
If you liked Peurto Pollensa I think you might like it.
I agree with tootsie cala bona/cala millor. Plenty of info about both resorts in other threads/posts.
I would recommend the Port of Alcudia or Port of Pollenca, this is a family resort and is not surrounded by tacky bars and nightclubs etc, you will find that there is a huge difference in the resort compared to Magaluf where life is rather more lively and is more suitable for people looking for nightlife.
The beaches in Alcudia have been voted the best of the island and they have an extreamley good record of being clean and safe.
There is a number of hotels in the area that is suitable, I would not recommend going self catering as the prices of food and drinks are quite high due to the exchange rate, however saying that if you know where to shop or eat then you could end up with a few good meals etc.
All Inc is a good option but going with the mentality that you want to go and explore!
Children are well looked after here, take a look on the reviews sections of the areas and see which unit looks good.
transfer time is about 45 mins if you get a direct one, I wouldn't recommend a shuttle as this can take up to 2 hours.
Hope that this helps.
When my son was 8 we stayed in the Playamar apts. in Puerto Pollensa, it was a fantastic holiday for all of us. There was a kids club during the day, plus quizzes for us adults, some days we spent the day at the beach, most evenings we wandered along the pinewalk and had food then back to the apts. where they had fairly good entertainment. The only drawback in staying at these apts. is that is is quite noisy, lots of children. In saying that my son had a great time and he wasn't lost for company and things to do. Last year we went to Cala Bona, much as we enjoyed it as adults, my son felt a bit lonely as there was no kids club as there was previously in the Playamar. In saying that he did have a great time, he is just very sociable and likes to meet other children, otherwise we like peace and quiet and relaxation. This year we're going to Cala D'or, hopefully we will get a happy medium, entertainment for an 11 year old and peace and quiet for us 40 year olds
So if you do go for Alcudia then I would avoid the Bellvue area. Still recommending Cala Millor and Porto Collom if you like Peurto Pollensa! Or what about Can Picafort on the "other side" of Alcudia if you particularly like the north of the island?
Cala Millor would get my vote, or Cala Bona for a more typically Spanish feel. Very family friendly and no rowdy lager louts and it's flat so no heart attack hills to contend with.
I would go along with Cala Millor or nearby Sa Coma/S'illot or at least the east coast of the island where the most and best sandy beaches are.
The tiger show at the end had me in tears, the tigers may be well looked after but they looked drugged to me. Some of the cages the animals are in looked very cramped and small - I thought I was going to see animals in a "park" area with some space - not all of them do unfortunately.
There is a long thread running about it started a couple of years ago..........
I would agree that Cala Millor or Sa Coma sounds like what you are looking for. There is a lovely beach and as mentioned before it is flat, so you can easily hire the bicycles (one which you can all go on together) and explore, the children seem to enjoy that. You can cycle right along the front into Cala Bona. We stayed in Cala Millor last July and it was not rowdy at all, infact it was fairly quiet, had lovely shops and restaurants and seemed quite family orientated.
I certaintly wouldn't consider palma nova as someone else said, i've been there and honestly couldn't tell the difference between palma nova and magaluf!
sorry - deleted this message as I misread the post and thought the OP had already been to Peurto Pollensa
I think that the suggestion of Soller most closely meets your requirements.I love the old town, and you can take the train through the mountains to Palma for a day trip. There is a tram which connects the Port to the old town. The port area is delightful, and it has a small sandy beach. You can make trips from Soller to some of the most beautiful parts of the island including Sa Colabra, Fornaluxt, Deja and Valledemossa. This really is a most beautiful part of the island. I would also ask you to consider Porto Colom, which is a relatively unspoiled charming old Mallorquian fishing port that has not yet been commercialised.
Can you explain yourself Mary Mary? I don't quite understand what you mean by traditional (sorry but your post sounds a bit condescending) - Cala Bona is not high rise! I like Soller - but for children Cala Bona is ideal - safe beach, non rowdy, pleasing bars for mum and dad around the harbour and lots of quite bays just along the coast.
thats a bit of a sweeping statement - and is quite subjective, as one persons "commercialised" is another persons "quiet".......These resorts are all to commercialised,
The opening post said "lots to do - shops - restaurants etc"............so I guess that means a certain amount of "commercialisation" doesnt it?
I live in Alcudia and the old town is one of the prettiest that you can find with its old fashioned streets and markets etc, the roman ruins and the village walls that are still in place, I could go on and on.
However I am sure that the lady who would like to go to Mallorca on holiday will look around and research each area that we have mentioned and then make her choice, either way, good luck to her!
Most of the resorts others have suggested would be good choices though I would suggest Puerto Pollensa as the best bet for your needs. It's a resort that ticks most of the boxes for the majority of people with it's lovely sweeping bay, excellent beaches and pleasant marina. It's not too commercialised yet either. Puerto Soller is also another option with it's setting on the stunning, mountainous West coast of the island. It retains a lot of charm with it's picturesque circular bay and trams. The tunnel through the mountain at Soller also means it's not difficult to get to and from Palma either. Cala Millor is a very modern resort with a long straight beach but I would suggest close neighbour Cala Bona is a better bet if you want to stay on the East coast. Cala D'Or was also very nice last time we visited about 6 years ago with it's lovely cove beaches, low-rise white-washed buildings and marina. The only proviso is that the beaches can get very crowded in the height of the summer though I've never been in June. It might be worth checking out the HT Mallorca photo gallery to give you a bit more of a clue as to what resort you might prefer.
