Chalky ... I can't help you with Polish rail travel, but please check out our City Breaks forum too for info on Krakow, as we have some separate discussion there which may be of use.

I'm pretty sure you don't pay extra for your luggage.

Hi, we travelled from Warsaw to Krakow last year by train and certainly were not charged for luggage, we did opt to travel in first class though which was well worth it....it's a bit of a free for all to get on the train...our 1st class carriages were at the front, don't know if all Polish trains are set up that way...you can look up Polish railways, think it's PKP over the internet for more info. We also went and got the tickets for the train the day before we left. 8)

Railways charging for luggage - don't go giving them ideas !!!

The main Polish State railways site is http://www.pkp.pl but it doesn't have an English option.

Their InterCity division has it's own pages which are available in English at http://www.intercity.pl/en/main and there is an e-mail link for queries like this under "About PKP InterCity"

Note that PKP may not be the operator of certain big city suburban services and some regional lines have been privatised to the likes of Arriva - no comment!
