As of 14th/15th June, currency amounting to €10,000 or more has to be declared when entering or leaving Bulgaria - see Bulgarian Customs website, select 'Useful information' on the left-hand menu, then 'For passengers' for full information.

While this will probably not apply to most travellers, it may be very significant for those who are buying (or are fortunate enough to have sold) apartments or other property in Bulgaria.

The previous Bulgarian Customs limit without declaration was 8,000 Leva (approx. €4,000).

Baldur
