Hi, taking into account summer traffic I think a 3 hour drive would be about right.
If you want the coast road then its pretty straight forward but you might want to think about going via Granada and then across the Sierra Navadas, absolutely beautiful ride,best of luck and have a great holiday,John.

Hello again, I do Benidorm (Outskirts on motorway) in 2 hours 30 on a weekday and 2 hours on a Sunday. This is from Mojacar and so if you are driving from Almeria Town then add another 45 minutes,best wishes,John.
