Plenty of restaurants down by the Marina...we ate at the Mayflower and had a perfectly acceptable meal. However this area is touristy as is all of Vilamoura really as a purpose built complex. If you have a car its easy enough to get off complex and visit more local restaurants. We often head for Guia to Ramires restaurant for Chicken piri-piri.

We ate a Dom Alfonso last night just behind the marina. Pretty good food. Nice people. A bit of a wait for a table but worth it. 100 euros for two for 3 courses plus a decent bottle of wine. Not particularly cheap but a nice meal.

Any other suggestions for places in or around Vilamoura?

We have always found the food to be good in Vilamoura our favourite places are Ostra da Oura just up the steps on the corner or the marina(beside the large cow outside of Alfasud) you can choose your own fish which is on display outside, they are very friendly and are good with kids, also on the Marina we love Al Lamparo which is the italian with the glass front at the other corner of the marina, if you go behind the marina in to the square there is a place called Pippa Rota, the food and service is fab you must give it a go. let me know how you get on and enjoy your holiday

Bit of an update on our search for a decent meal in Vilamoura. We ate at old Navy on the second night which is in one corner of the marina by the Haagen Dazs place.

Nice food - nothing spectacular. I had Prawns Piri Piri which were pretty good and the good lady had a Tiger Prawn salad which she loved.

Next night - Fishermans Shack in the Olympus Aparthotel complex. A bit tricky to find but a nice place in a strange almost shopping centre location. Friendly staff and a reasonably priced wine list. Very nice fish indeed. Probably the best meal we've had so far here.

Almost spoiled by the incredibly annoying habit they have of serving everything hidden under one of the lids which is only made worse by whisking them off at the same time and banging them together. Almost amusing the first time, irritating the second and then by the tenth time has you reaching for something blunt and heavy to hit someone with.
