Are there any chains of hotels or travel inns etc with good deals on for August does anyone know

Try http://www.travelodge.co.uk they have a summer sale on at the moment and though many of the discount rooms have gone you might find something for your dates. I've booked a room for £15 in London on the 19th!!
Yes the £45 was each, at Ramada others on offer Travelodge is per room
