Thanks Tootsie and Fiona

Well the packing is under way. I am surrounded by boxes and boxes, then there are the boxes, oh and not forgetting the boxes  I can't believe the amount of cr@p that I have thrown away, but then I suppose 23 years in the same house you are bound to keep stuff you don't really need. After completion on the 30th March we will be staying with my Dad for a couple of weeks (I love him to bits but don't know how we are going to get on living with him) while the money from the sale comes through so we can transfer it to Tenerife, then our flights are booked for 17th April.
Our youngest son (15) is now staying in the yUK until July in order to finish this year at school and not disrupt his GCSE's too much, so he can start afresh in September at his new school. We have booked into our time share for two weeks and will hopefully go to notary by the end of the first week. We are being met at the airport by a lady who looks after dogs as we can't take him to the timeshare. Husband nearly had a heart attack when we booked the flights - £55 each for us and £357 for the dog, add onto this the £194 for his passport and the 12€ per day for his kennel while we are at the time share and it works out a pretty penny. But he's worth it - wouldn't leave him here. Did say to my husband he could stay here that would save us £55 . People keep asking us if we are having a party before we go, but we said 'NO' because every time you watch one of these programmes on TV where they have a farewell party they end up coming back to the UK at some stage. Husband is away skiing at the begining of March so I am having a girls night in with all the neighbours and friends I have around here and then on the 24th March we are taking our close friends and family to a brilliant Chinese place near us where you have your meal but you stay for the evening as at about 11p.m. the place transforms into a night club until 2am. We have tested it out with some friends to make sure it was the right venue and we had a brilliant time. There are 50 of us going on the 24th so we are looking forward to a good night where we can finally relax a bit because all the packing and re-direction of mail etc will be done by then. I will let you know how it all goes after the event (it may be a couple of days after the event though :glynis

A really busy time for you Jackie! A bit stressful and really emotional too,but just think,it'll all be so!! worth it in the end. A little bit longer and you'll be making us, back home in the UK, jealous of your lovely new life in sunny Tenerife. Look forward to hearing how things went for you!

Ok - where do I start.

Had the first 'farewell' drink with neighbours and friends last night (all ladies). The evening began very civilised at around 8ish when the first guests arrived. In total there were 18 of us and between us we consumed 3 bottles of Vodka, 10 bottles of blush wine, 8 bottles of white wine, 1/2 bottle Southern Comfort,1/2 bottle Brandy,10 bottles Bacardi Breezers,1/4 bottle Amaretto,5 bottles champagne, the odd measure of various other spirits and 1 cup of tea. Majority of people began leaving at 3a.m. this morning with the last of the guests going home to bird song at 4.50a.m. Couldn't face the clearing up then so just went to bed. At 9a.m. I was wide awake, came out of my bedroom and bumped into my daughter coming out of her room at the same time, which was quite a shock because she was slightly worse for wear herself last night and I thought she would be in bed for the day. To be honest there was not that much mess, just loads of glasses and empty bottles, virtually all the food went so there was no clearing away half eaten bits of stuff sitting anywhere and it was all done by 10 a.m. I am now going to see if I can grab a couple of hours sleep before hubby returns from his skiing trip with 10 ton of dirty washing. Can't believe I haven't even got the slightest of headaches.

Had our 2nd farewell do on Saturday night with our friends. Ended up with 43 of us at the Chinese. Won't bore you with the details, but a brilliant night was had by all. This week has started how it is going to finish 'manick'. Final bits of packing are underway ready for us to move out of our house on Friday and into my Dads until the 17th April when we fly to the Reef.

It's amazing what some people will do for a night on the razzle but moving to Tenerife, that's a bit extreme, isn't it?

Anyway, good luck with the move Jackie, how many more 'farewell do's' before you actually go?

Definately one more with our four very close friends on Good Friday. One of them is having a dinner party for us. We generally all end up worse for wear pretty early on into the evening when we have been to her dinner parties before. We normally start with champagne cocktails and end on the floor

Hi All

Well I am finally here and finally back on line, those of you who are familiar with Telephonica will know what I mean. Flew over on 17th April and stayed at our time share prior to going to Notary on the 25th. We spent the next five days on manic shopping sprees for some furniture and essentials before finally moving into the house. Dog has settled in fine although he seemed a bit put out by it all when we collected him at the airport, he was not very impressed with it all. My Daughter who turned 17 last week has met some really good friends thanks to one of the girls who works at our timeshare, she is working for Barclaycard. Prior to the move she kept telling me when she was 18 she was moving back to the yUK, she was unsure about moving to Tenerife etc etc. Now I am lucky if I see her for an hour a day, she is never in. My youngest son arrived last week, he stayed in yUK to finish this year at school as he is the middle of GCSE's. He is at a bit of a loose end at the moment but once he starts school in September I am sure he will be fine. My husband , who is still working in the yUK due to being self employed was supposed to visit the Reef every six weeks or so, he has juist gone back after his third visit and plans to return around 11th July. Think he will be moving out for good sooner than he thought. My eldest son wanted to stay in the yUK but will be coming out in November with his friends for his 21st, I can't wait :pele
Peter, I think we were at the same Eurovision event in May but we didn't get introduced, sorry I didn't know you were there until after the event. Perhaps next time.
Anyway that is my story so far, the only problem is that now I am back online I am never going to get the decorating finished.

Take care all
Jackie

Sounds like things are falling into place nicely

Yes we were at the Eurovision meet but it was difficult to talk to people with all the goings on :P .

We are out again in September and will try to get to a quiz night at the Gramola Bar with Janet maybe.

Our plans seem to be going OK Daughter has left home and as a rent house opposite our best friends... but I have a sneeking feeling she may well follow us out. I think its just the boy friend that would keep her in the UK long term relationship of 7 years.

Our son and his girlfriend are moving to Northhampton ( jobs) and are house sharing with his best friends who have just got married.

The dog is too old to move but she can live with Becci (daughter)

Sounds like everything is going to plan for you. Do you think you will be out here permanently sooner than you thought. I think like your daughter, our son will eventually join us out here. He has been living with the out laws since the beginning of March and from what he tells me they are driving him crazy. Think it will be a case of him finishing some extra courses at work that he is in the middle of and then hopefully he'll be out. He is a personal Trainer so I don't think it will be too hard for him to find work with all the gyms and hotel gyms about. My husband has even told him we will keep him for six months while he is getting on his feet ( hubby knows how much I miss my first born so if he can get him out here by dangling a little carrot in front of him then so be it} but at the end of the day it will be his decision.

Hopefully will catch up with you out here one day

Hi Jackie

Yes everything seems to be dropping into place ( its starting to worry me that its all coming together so well  )

We intend to move early next year and sell the house... hopefully the market will hold out. The interest rate rises are a worry.

However I have a feeling this may be the last increase ( can see an election looming next year ) for a while and the housing market can setlledown a bit.

Due to work committments I wll need to commute back to UK about once a month. Can work from Tenerife via email and t`internet which is a good thing. Uk pay + Tenerife lifestyle is worth the travel hassle at least for a few years.

It will also allow us to remain UK resident for a while.

Maybe we can get together for a chat at a future meet.......
