Hi Guys.
Been trolling the forum for a week or two now. Thought I'd join as I have a specific question that I haven't seen asked.
I've booked up to go to Sunny Beach at the end of the month (Pomorie Hotel). First time in Bulgaria. Can't bloody wait.
Usually go to Spain and have never had any bother with putting my valuables in the safety deposit boxes at reception. I was even comfortable enough to leave my ipod plugged into portable speakers when I would leave the apartment during the day.
Is this sort of thing ok when staying in Bulgaria? Do we have to be more vigilant with stuff like that? I read on another web site a woman complaining her deposit box was robbed from reception, so its kinda made me want reassurance that this isn't widespread.
Thanks.
There have been tales of hotel safe deposit boxes being robbed at many resorts all over the world (including Spanish ones), so no, it's no more endemic to Bulgaria than anywhere else.

We have been going since 1989 and always used safety deposit boxes. Have never had a problem and never met anyone who's had a problem.
I'm talking about hotel staff here and not the thieves who can spoil anybodies holiday. Been to Bulgaria 3 times, 3 diferent hotels, and left digi. camera, digi camcorder, presents, cartons of cigs, even lots of loose change, in hotel room, and they have NEVER been touched. I know it is a bad example of my own, and I would not recommend it, but I DO keep my passport and cash in SD box.
I'm going back again end of august.
baz.
thanks for the replys guys. I feel more comfortable now. Its always good to ask these questions for piece of mind. I'll still be vigilent but at least I know Bugaria is not some breading ground for thiefs!
Good point I wanted to ask about- where to store valuables. So clear enough with the deposit boxes. How about if you're staying in self-catering apartments, not a hotel- is it safe enough to leave things in the apartment? We don't expect a cleaning lady every day, like in a hotel, so nobody should be coming in and checking our stuff out.
