Have a look at Carvoeiro. Just got back at the weekend after our 3rd holiday there. It's quite picturesque (a bit like an old english seaside town) with enough to keep you entertained without being magalufish. It's got some great beaches and loads of eating places. There are a couple of livelier bars if that's what you are looking for but on the whole it's just a nice relaxing place to be. Try looking on Carvoiero website to get a better idea.
