Being as you have a young child it would have to be Coral Bay, best beach and all that, Kato Paphos has a small municipal beach if you really need some nightlife and more places to feed yourselves...the walk from Coral Bay to Paphos harbour would take about ten hours!! you will need the bus, car hire or a taxi.
It would be a hike from Coral Bay to the Harbour @ Paphos (5 miles)
We have walked from the Chloraka to the Harbour with our little two, about 2 miles, along the coastal path, behind the Tombs of the Kings, between some of the hotels and the Med.
The bus runs regualr from Coral Bay to the Harbour and costs approximately C£1 each. It takes about 20 mins.
But Coral Bay is ideal for familes if you want a safe sandy beach close at hand.
Good Luck

Stewart yes but I am old and decrepit, it would actually take me a lot longer, and for sure the walk to the harbour from Coral Bay is too far by miles for the average person, especially in this awful heat here at the moment, also it would be a very dangerous walk because of the lack of pavements and the awful driving standards of most Cypriots here, incoming mobile phone calls come before pedestrians, no I reiterate my statement it is stupidly far to even think of walking it at anytime of the year, bus, taxi, or hire care only! by the way it is 8.2 miles from CB to Kato Pafos harbour, or about 12 kilometers, (not to good on conversions) and about ten hours for me to walk, not that I would even contemplate it!
Got to agree with Jimbox.I'm just back from the Helios Bay Apartments which are roughly half way between Coral Bay and Paphos, and being fairly fit(I walk the 12 miles to my mothers once a fortnight)I decided to go for a walk along the side of the road for a bit towards Coral Bay.BAD idea. The traffic is hurtling past just a few feet from you as there are no pavements at way above the speed limit and as soon as I was about 10 minutes up the road I had to turn back as the heat was unbelievable, even though I thought I had got used to it.Thankfully I had taken water but you really are taking a big risk.
Coral Bay will have plenty to keep you occupied. Lots of restauarnts and bars and as Jim say's the best beach this side of the island. Ideal for a young family.
