:D My mum loves a game of bingo, and use to play every night in the star bar, and pheasant plucker - for great money too, - in the 2 weeks she was there she won back, what she had payed for her holiday, and thats the truth!

However on her last visit, she was really peed off to find that the playing of bingo has been "Clamped down", on, the previous poster is correct in saying bars can actually be closed down if caught!, - she wasn't a happy bunny, :D

Regards, BBb

I don't mind playing bingo for what the star bar pay out as they pay out most of what they get in.

But the brewers droop was just a rip off, we one night decided not to buy tickets, cause we would have been spending more money than we would have won. And the guy on the mic called us tight for not playing.

Total prize for the game was 20 euros and it cost 5 euros for 6 tickets.

Work that out in a packed bar.

Bingo is illegal in Tenerife except in a proper bingo hall. It is all to do with the licence needed.

I know Bingo is illegal on the lsland, but many a bar used to play a couple of games a night, just wondered if there are still a few bars doing so. Also has chris pointed out, Brewers Droop absolute rip off, dont even go there.

The bars can't play any games at night because it is illegal without the proper licence. Knowing first hand what the beurocracy on the Island is like I would imagine they would have to deem themselves as a Casino/ Gambling establishment therefore requiring certain other legal requirements than they would if they stayed as just a bar/restaurant with entertainment. The way the trade for the bars is at the moment on the Island it is probably too much financially for them to do this.

Thanks Jackie, the wife will be terribly upset. Always looked forward to a game at the George & Dragon. Never mind, i'm sure i will find somewhere for my Horse Racing though. I am led to beleive theres a bar called Horse & Jockey down by las vista beach, this sounds good to me.

Anyone just back from PDLA give me an update on the bingo situation in the bars. George and Dragon especially.
And is the Harlequin open now.

Harlequins is open but is a lot different. It is called White Elephant or a similar name. Bingo is very much outlawed and you are lucky to find it

:D No bingo anymore in pheasant plucker, or star bar, they have really cracked down on it (Much to my mums disappointment), she once won a big amount, which more or less payed for her hol

Thanks all my missus will be disappointed, the George and Dragon for one or two games use to be our starting point of an evening.

Is there still a ban on bingo in las Americas? Not me its for the wife ,honest.

Jolly good - all we need now is a banning of Karaoke and it might be safe to go in to bars for a nice quiet drink and chat!

Ah, but what you have to think of is ban bingo, ban kareoke, then ban quizes, ban acts, and there wont be any one in the bars to talk to??not any one who wants to enjoy themselfs anyway.

Better not name the bar as the moderator may think it is to inflamatory but it was one of the big show bars in the Santa Maria. Sold us a strip of bingo tickets for 5 euros, I reckon they sold a minimum of a hundred strips and told us the prize was 200 euros. Played the one game, you know what`s comeing next.
Had to be won in a certain number of calls (not a chance) the eventual winner got 10 euros.
I did send an email to Adeje, they do have trading standards same as us, never heard anything though.
The moral seems to be if you know an honest place stick to it.
Same thing happened at a famous pub facing Laguna Park 2, took in about 150 euros and paid out 25.

Whether you think it right or not, alot of the smaller bars used to have bingo on to supplement there entertainment costs. So if they took in 150 euros they would pay out 75, still a good return if you have paid 5 euros for tickets no?

The sad thing is that now they are no longer able to do the bingo there is a knock on effect, meaning that they cant afford the number of acts they used to have, meaning less work on the Island for entertainers and less choice for tourists.

Bars here have never been able to do bingo, they have just chosen in the past to ignore the risks. gambling here is illegal without the required paperwork, which is very difficult to obtain. Every so often the authorities have a crack down, and bars get closed as a result. If you do bingo you are taking big risks, the fines are huge, and as mentioned your bar could be closed as a result. Thats just the way it is, and has always been!!!

I agree hamster although they werent so strict 10 years ago or more when they were wanting the tourists here to boost the local economy ;)
