I do apologise for the lack of info given in my original post.

Truth is I don't really know when I will be going, it was more of a general enquiry.
I had originally planned to go in the next few weeks (until the price put me off) I would be travelling alone. I have friends out there, hence flights only needed.

Hi, My friend wants to fly to New York in August to visit relatives. The prices seem to have jumped up since last year when she flew with American Airlines for £359. The cheapest I can find now is £426 with Continental through airline-network from Gatwick. she doesn`t mind where she flies from. Any suggestions, please. Also, is it possible for her relatives in the US to purchase the tickets for her? Their prices are much cheaper.

try an indirect flight with KLM I got quoted upto £800 in economy(i dont think so) for NY in december but ended up getting a package deal off the KLM.com website for £550 including 4* accom and flights with KLM via Amsterdam from my local airport.

Prices always tend to be higher in our summer months but sometimes there are special sales! Look out for BA sales as they have had NY for under £300 recently.

Thanks for your replies. I had a really good search yesterday. The cheapest I can find at the moment is Continental at £420 through airline-network but thats a lot cheaper than she was quoted from BA. I will keep checking for sales. :)

Sorry to hijack the thread slightly but does anyone know when return flights to New York for May/June 2009 go on sale? I have checked a few web sites but they only seem to go up to April '09 at the moment.

usually 11 months in advance so May 09 will come our June 08 etc

£ 420 to New York in August is a great deal, remember fuel cost are rising constantly just now and this has a big impact of flight tickets. Have you tried Zoom Airlines who fly from Gatwick to New York, flyzoom.com

Looking to book flights to New York around 21st May 2009 (ideally from Manchester but any UK airport considered) to link up with a cruise we have booked to celebrate our 25th anniversary (returning 2nd/3rd June)

We have tried all the well known flight only/comparison internet sites and the best price we can get so far is around £500 per person!

We had hoped by booking early we might get it cheaper than that, anybody any advice on when is the best time to book flights to NY and/or can suggest any sites that perhaps we hadn't thought of?

Thanks

OH and I have been invited to visit a friend in Connecticut. I know it's not until next summer, but can anyone advise which airline is best. We live in East Anglia, so assume it would have to be one of the London airports. Also, approx how much a return economy flight would cost please.

East Point,

You have lots of options but as you say, you'll have to go via Heathrow, Gatwick or Manchester really. You've lots of airline options; British Airways, United, American, Delta, US Airways, Virgin, Bmi, Continental etc. Try one of the price comparisson website or the airlines website for prices as they'll vary depending on your dates and where you connect through.
