Im looking for somewhere to go in september that ive never been to before, we are considering Tenby, has anyone any advice on what we are likely to find there? Whats the actual place like, is there areas surrounding that offer good days out as we like to tour the area, are there any good holiday camps local or in Tenby itself? What are peoples impressions of this area? Many thanks for any answers offered.
There are plenty of self catering cottages flats etc and there are a few caravan parks nearby one of them being havens kiln park which is about a ten minute walk from Tenby and has direct access to the south beach.
We rented a holiday flat fro FBM holidays

Spent fortnight in Tenby a few years ago thought it was very nice, on a hot day it had an almost continental feel together with a fantastic beach. Great area to tour for beautiful scenery and on the Pembrokeshire coast and inland plenty of historic places in particular many fine castles .
Tenby is a beautiful place. It's very central and around a 10 minute drive from the lovely seaside town of Saundersfoot with it's lovely harbour. The beaches are beautiful in both places. There are loads of places to eat out in Tenby and plenty to do in the surrounding area, - Oakwood theme park is a short drive away, and Heatherton where you'll find go carting paint balling etc. The historic market town of Carmarthen around 30 minutes away and there's a fabulous Norman Castle at Kidwelly around 45 minutes away. I wouldn't worry too much about stag do's it's usually only on a Saturday night and they are well controlled by police.
Thanks very much for that i think we will go about the second week in september, it sounds nice and well worth checking out.
We were on the Haven/British Holidays, Kiln Park. Little shortcut over the railway, across the golf course and through the sand dunes onto the south beach. From there you can walk along the beach into town - or turn right and wander half a mile or so along the beach then climb up onto Giltar Point for great views out to sea, Caldey Island and St Margaret's Island are close off-shore. Alternaitvely there is a path that follows the railway line into the town.
The Pemborkeshire coast Path (186 miles in all) runs through Tenby so there are planty of coastal walks, south west towards Lydstep Haven, Manorbier (with it's castle) and on towards Freshwater, or to the north east Waterwynch Bay then beyond that Monkstone Point and Saundersfoot - another small seaside town.
Inland there is Oakwoods theme Park - but I've never been there.
Tenby itself is an old walled town - much of the old wall still exists. It has a pretty little harbour and a small island sits just offshore - at low tide it is accessible from the beach, or rather the rock pools are - the island is out of bounds.
From the harbour there are boats trips; mackerel fishing, coastal cruises, the ferry to Caldey Island or seal/seabird watching trips.
In the town don't miss an ice cream sculpture from Fecci's Ice Cream Parlour.
The new RNLI station is worth a visit.
There are loads of places to eat out or gewt a drink in the town - and it's true it has become the stag night capital of South Wales on a Saturday night. Weekdays are much quieter though.
A little further afield there is a nice walk beside lily ponds onto a quiet beach at Bosherston, then there are places nearby like St Davids, Pendine - and, as they say, much more.
Stayed at the quieter haven site - lydstep - 6-7 minute drive from Tenby. Beautiful caravan, peaceful site, own pebble and sand bay beach with restaurant, arcade, childrens entertainment. Lovely.
Would definately go back !

Great info thanks guys.
They were having their festival when we were there. Paella night with live bands in the harbour on one night aswell as other things going off.
There was also a church group on the south beach doing a tug of war and about 200 pullers, my family included. They then went to their gazebo and did songs with the kids which they really enjoyed. Not in your face at all.
New hedges has a car boot every Monday ( I think)in the local hall and grounds (opposite Londis) the ladies here had a cafe and everything was 50p!!! Coffee tea sandwiches scones with jam and cream. It was all very nice.
Circus was there and the weekly car boot on the Island before NewHedges.
Most of the town is car free in the summer months, multi story car park (next to Somerfield) the best for parking as was about 60p for 3 hours £1.20 for all day parking and the loos are just outside. Top of South beach £2.50 all day, bottom of south beach is pay and display (assume it's the same price as multistory) but gets full quickly.
The loos are the only downside at the moment. the only other open public loos are near the harbour on the slope down the middle beach. The others at the fire station and the market are closed and have been for some time!
The best chips are from the one on the right after going through the 5 arches of the old town wall, not the one down the road on the right.
Loads of £1 shops so get your drink from here to go with your chips!!
Enjoy!
It had to stop raining sometime - glad you enjoy Tenby too...
Hi just booked 3 nights in Tenby over the New Year. We've had a 3 bedroom maisonette sleeping 6 for £141 per couple. How can you beat that?!! We had a fantastic time last year even though it tipped down on New Years Eve. We can't wait.
