I stayed in Malgrat for two weeks this July/August and we walked up to Santa Susanna a few times. There was a big funfair for the children up there this year (bigger than last year) which I'm sure your children will love. Also there's the permanent mini funfair in Malgrat which we visit every year and this year my son won enough tickets on the shooting gallery to get a megaphone (unfortunately ).
I love taking a leisurely walk to look at the many stalls in Santa Susanna in the evenings and bought a couple of pretty handmade silver rings.
The daytime Tuesday market up in Santa Susanna is always popular, but take a drink and a fan, because it's always really hot walking around it.
Have a fun holiday!
PS Look out for the 'cowboy statue' - he's brilliant
cheers for the info julie kids are well happy ,been moanin that "its not salou"
Hubby and I going in 6wks time, first visit.
Boothill - Something else I'm sure your children would enjoy is the Medieval Night. It's fun for them to be able to cheer their knight on, charging up and down on horseback in medieval costumes. You should be able to pick up a leaflet about it at your hotel (and book with your rep). A coach picks you up (between 7.30 pm and 8.00 pm) and takes you to the castle (only about a 15/20 minute coach trip), and you are given a crown to wear, you sit on long benches in a huge hall to watch the show and are served a meal of soup, chicken and potato, ice-cream, plus wine, fizzy drinks and water. After that show you all move to another big room where a live band plays and you can dance if you want, followed by a brilliant flamenco show. Then it's back on the coach at about midnight to return to your hotel. As with most of the trips it's not a cheap night (40+ euros each I think), but it's a really entertaining evening. It was my 12 year old son's favourite night of the holiday, so to me it was worth it!
I agree about the medieval night ......went last year and thoroughly enjoyed it . We were staying in a H Top hotel so all we had to play was the coach transfer which i think this year was 12 euros each, had a great time young and old alike all cheering .
julie c , once again thanx ,all looking forward to cheering those knights of olde
10 more sleeps for us!!!!!
We are staying in malgrat so might have to look out for that night. Only 7 more get ups for me..............woooooo can't wait
My mum is taking my boys to Lloret (Rossamar Gardens) for Half Term in October, me and my husband are going to a nice hotel in Tunbridge Wells for the week, but now it's getting closer I wish I was going to Spain. It's a long while to wait until next July's holiday back to Malgrat
I'm sure you'll have a lovely time
BTW Which hotel are you going to?
To be honest I'm just ready for the break, and am so looking forward to it.
We are staying at the planamar. Read a lot of bad reports but for what i've paid I'm not expecting too much. Stayed at the Olympic in february and read lots of bad reports from that but again it was well worth what we paid.
Hope you enjoy your hols.
The Planamar is just along the road from the hotel we always go to, The Maripins. It is always busy, so they must be doing something right! I know it's an all inclusive hotel, but if you fancy eating out any time there are lots of places to get a reasonable meal. We go full board at The Maripins, but we sometimes miss the evening meal and go to The Eureka to eat (I've put directions on your Malgrat thread), also there is a very nice Chinese Restaurant (eat as much as you like), further along the road.
The Planamar is situated more or less in the middle of everything, so you won't have far to go in either direction when you leave the hotel. The beach is just over the road. Don't be put off by the close proximity of the railway line, you won't even notice it, we've been going there for the last 9 years and you forget it's there!
We love Malgrat, I wish I could live there! There are lots of shops to look around in the evenings and a lovely 'arty' market every evening up the far end of Santa Susanna (a nice walk away), with lots to see en route.
There's a daytime market up there on a Tuesday and another daytime market in the streets behind the Planamar on a Thursday.
I could talk about Malgrat for ages, but am tired now so going to bed!
Happy holidays
Awe thanks so much for that. Extremely helpful, but will it be the same next week or will a lot be closed/closing by then do you know?
Just got back a week ago. Had a nice, relaxing break in hotel on beach front, Royal Sun. Wasn't that struck on the resort, especially with the train line running through it. I kept looking for the 'big perfume shops' but never found any.
joolz - sorry to hear you were disappointed with the resort, I must say the train running through it doesn't bother me, but then I have been going there for so many years and have so many happy memories of it that I may be looking at it through rose coloured glasses!
I don't know of a big perfume shop?? There's a small one on the main shopping street and several shops selling 'Mickey Mouse' perfumes (replicas), but actually I've always found perfumes cheaper here than in Spain in shops like Wilkinsons, Savers, Superdrug ...
My mum had a brilliant time with my boys in Lloret for half term last week, although the weather wasn't hot it was a lot better than here! They went and visited the Maripins in Malgrat to say 'hello' and 'see you next summer'
Roll on Summer '08
