Hi
I went last year and enjoyed it. It was different! My Dad drove over the mountains from Stalis and it took ages. We went on highway on way back and it was so much quicker.
Plaka has a little boat most of the time back and forth - takes approx 3-4 minutes on boat. I would take refreshments as it gets really hot and if you like you might want to climb up on island so I would wear sensible shoes.
Enjoy it! Cretes lovely.

I have read the book about the island and also have another book that tells the actual true story. We are going to Crete on Sunday and going to visit the island whilst there. Wonder if my thoughts of what it will look like will be as good as it it. Will have to wait and see.
Hi Brendat
What is the true story book called? I would love to read it.And have a lovely holiday.
Thanks Liz

You may be disappointed with the looks of the island, but you'll love the place and Elounda. (Look for the bakery near the church at the end of the harbour)
Hi Liz Mc
The book is called The Island and it is by Victoria Hislop.
It is a great read, I could not put it down, I am sure you will enjoy reading it very much

Hi Brenda
Hope you had a great time on Crete and enjoyed Spinalonga. What`s the title of the "other book" you refer to?

Hi folks, I was there yesterday!
As we went over to Ag Nik for the day and it was our last day in Crete...
we just took the 3 hr tour..so about an hour's cruise to get there, you get an hour round the island (you can just about go around it if you are quick, take water, as it was very hot!) and then an hour back to Ag Nik. I think the longer tour with the guide would be worth it but you can read a fair amount about the island as you go round as there is info posted around and a little museum, there is also a coffee/drinks shop....you have to pay 2 euros to enter now but it was certainly very interesting and fab views of Plaka and Elounda, the water around the island is also crystal clear.

Having read the beautiful book "The Island" on holiday in Mexico this year, I would love to do the trip to Sinalonga when we go to Stalis next year. Can anyone give me a rough idea of price and advice as to whether its a trip worth doing. Thanks
THE TRIP COSTS ABOUT 7 EUROS FROM ELOUNDA PLUS 3 EUROS ENTRANCE, I PERSONALY WOULD SAY ITS WORTH IT, BEEN TWICE AND SHALL BE GOING AGAIN THIS YEAR.
TAKE PLENTY OF WATER IT CAN GET HOT.

ooooops!!!! sorry mod.
Hi Fiona! My sister is now in the process of reading the book, and is equally enthralled. We can't wait to do the trip.!
you will love the island. As Gerr says - take plenty of water and a sunhat would be a good idea. There is not a lot of shade and can be very hot.
We're staying on the Stalis to Malia road. Would it be possible to do this trip independently or are we better off going on an organised trip. Thanks
