we have just returned from Kos where we had booked a 4*plus all inclusive hotel and were informed by MyTravel two hours before leaving for the airport that we had been overbooked but were being upgraded to a 5* hotel
On our arrival we were horrified to discover that we were one of two english parties in the hotel ( the other had been bumped form the same hotel) and that it was more like a 3* and 5km from anywhere.
We complained within hours to both the Kos rep and the UK office and filled in a complaint form on the second day.
Promises of alternative accomodation were given and various texts sent to us over the next week fobbing us off, then one of our party lost his father back in the Uk and had to return. We concentrated on his two children and filled in a second form on the 9th day of our holiday.
I would like some advice regarding the rating of our hotel - it is on several german tour operator sites as a 4* but had never been veted by Airtours, the accomodation had been arranged by the overbooked hotel in fact rather than Airtours. The broken light fittings, windows, rats and mice, mouldy bathrooms etc kind of make this rating optomistic and in fact the hotel themselves said it was a 3*. How should we approach thois in our initial letter to the tour operator and what is the best thing to focus on? The poor all inclusive facilities, the lack of entertainment or the standard of accomodation?

Hi what was the name of the hotel
We were originally booked into the Kipriotis Village in Psalidi which is part of a much larger group. Most of those overbooked were put into those hotels locally but we were placed at the Gaia Royal in Mastichari. 25 Euros for a taxi to the Kip Village and 5km from Mastichari itself
