I read on another forum that there is currently building renovations going on at Kanta Hotel, Can anyone confirm this at all please if you have been there or near there recently.

I stayed at the Kanta in July for two weeks and there was no building work going on then. I think the building work you are refering to was probably when they were making the new Irish Puca Pub which is at the front of the hotel but that is all finished now.
Hope you enjoy your holiday you are really lucky I wish I was going back to Kanta again but can't complain because I am off to Tunisia to stay at the Abou Sofiane in 1 week and 6 days
