Arrived back in the UK 4 hours late due to aircraft problems on Sunday evening. Had a very enjoyable 7 days in Finikounda on the mainland. No great problems with the fires, only a little ash falling like snow on the first day for which the locals were apologising for all the time. Service was slow at times, but when found out why we understood, a lot of the local men had gone to fight the fires.
A very nice and relaxing holiday, weather was very hot but the beer was cod. Excelent meals and at a reasonable price. Hired a car for 6 days to see the local area and was very surprised to find the roads very good standard with little traffic on them.
I just had to look up Finikounda, as I'd never heard of it (must admit, I'm usually to be found on an island!), but it looks lovely. How long a transfer was it from the airport and did you sort the holiday yourself (flight + hotel) or did you use a tour operator?
Holiday was booked via Kosmar and the transfer was approx 1.5 hrs. The hotel was basic and was across the road from the beach. The resort was very laid back and the locals very friendly. We found the area to be nice and suprisingly cheap, came back with approx half our spending money and we went B&B
Glad to here that Finikounda area has not ben spoiled, it is a lovely place to stay. We were there a couple of years back and stayed in Kosmar's Sonia studios, which were excellent. I heard a rumour that Kosmar were dropping out of the resort next year - I don't know if it's true. It would be a shame as few tour operators go there.
