Hi,
You can get a really great meal and extremely cheap at a number of places in Luxor but I would always recommend

El Hussain (near the new market a little further up the road from the Luxor Temple) - it was listed in Lonely Planet guide a few years ago for budget travellers.
John & John's - inside the Gaddis Hotel and up on the first level (up the steps by the King Dudes bar). English run, massive meals and cheap.
Maxime Restaurant & Takeaway - situated between Sheraton and the Isis Hotels (continental, oriental & veggie menu).

If you are going to Cairo - please do not miss seeing the Boat Museum (at the side of the Great Pyramid). It's very rarely listed but is a fabulous sight to see one of the funeral boats dug up from the side of the pyramids.

We just used Mr Sherif on our trip in May and he is really helpful. Pay a small deposit up front and the rest on arrival. He has a "live person" helpline so you can ask questions and get immediate answers online.

Most of all - ENJOY :D

You will most certainly want to repeat your visit to Egypt.
