Hi

I've not been to Cyprus for about 10/15 years but have previously stayed in many parts mostly around Paphos, Limassol , and Agia Napa.

I'm interested in returning to Cyprus next year for a family holiday as we had a son in January of this year and he'll still be a bit too young for any further afield.

The problem is I've been told that Cyprus has changed significantly since I was last there. To give you a clue I'm not even sure if Paphos Airport existed, the coast road between Paphos and Coral Bay was a single lane road with nothing on it but the occasional hotel and the Tomb of the Kings. Coral Bay was just starting to be developed.

So I need to get the answer to two questions really.

Firstly, I'm looking to stay somewhere within walking distance of the beach and what I mean by walking distance is 200 /300 m max. I'm looking for somewhere fairly quiet but I don't want to have to spend all my time in the hotel bar so somewhere with some nightlife would be good but I'm not looking for anything like Agai Napa or the coastal strip at Limassol - far to full on for me now days.

A few good restaurants and a few friendly bars would be perfect.

I'm not after the name of a hotel, just an area. Can anyone help?

Second question is about the hotel ratings in Cyprus. Now a 3* hotel in the USA you just know will be decent but a 3* in Goa for example is a completely different ball game. I'm looking for good food (not Haute Cuisine or anything); clean rooms; friendly staff; nice pool; bit of evening entertainment. Should I be aiming at 3*/4*/5*? If this were England we were talking about I'm after a decent 3* or standard 4* hotel, something like a Holiday Inn, but what would this be rated as in Cyprus?
