My mate phoned me today saying they had missed their flight home. The transfer never arrived after he spent 2 days trying to find what time the pick up was, he was told by the rep he would phone or fax him with the transfer times. The rep didn't do either. The great bit of advice the rep told them today was if the transfer didn't turn up you should of got a taxi to the airport They are trying to get flights home but with no luck, no availability. The rep when contacted today didn't seem to know he had a transfer booked and with the reps being turkish there was a communication problem with the reps limited english. They couldn't stay in the accommodation because it was fully booked and are now at dalaman in a hotel to be close to the airport if seats become available on flight. They have been told to turn up at the airport 3 hours before flight in case there seats.
He has not had a good time of it since the 15 Aug. His wives brother died and they had to fly to jamaica, but after being told the funeral would be when they were there, it was put back a week. He was also in jamaica during the hurrican. He had one bit of luck, he was travelling back to the UK on the 23 aug and flying to turkey on the 24 aug, his plane was the first plane not to be delayed for 24 hrs.
I spoke to ros and I passed on what she told me and she will look at the paper work when he gets back to the UK to see if the transfers were booked. I know they where because I saw the travel docs.
I suppose they should look on the bright side, they are still on holiday. This is what happens when not travelling with a tour op. The holiday was put together by apollo travel flight, hotel and transfer. I don't know if a agent for apollo travel supplied the reps on apollo's travel behalf, but what I do know is one of the large tour ops would of had all the flight and pick up times on display and when they asked the rep the information would been to hand what time the transfer would arrive. I say its not always cheaper by doing a package put together by agent or a DIY holiday when you take into account the extra protection travelling with a tour op gives. I have done the DIY holidays and saved money, £1000 plus against the tour price, but thats planning well in advance. My mate booked at a late stage and the holiday wasn't cheap. To add insult to injury the night they arrived they were given 1 apartment instead 2, its at least £65 per night rental they will have to try and get back as well.
Not a nice thing to happen but surely your mate knew what time his return flight was and so would have had some idea as to when he should have been picked up. If no transfer arrived I would have taken a taxi rather than wait and see.
I do hate to say this, but yes the advice from the rep, miles too late, is correct. If you do know when your flight is, then, regardless whether a transfer turns up or not, you should get yourself to the airport. Who knows what has happened to stop that transfer from getting to you.
In mitigation, I would like to say that I got caught up in an RTA on Saturday, and it coloured my reply to your post, sorry
I haven't had the full story yet because I have spoken to him briefly at times on the phone, as I believe it they were waiting for the transfer, if they realised it was not coming it might of been too late to get a taxi to the airport.
Anyway he is going to claim against the company when he gets home to get expenses paid out to get home, accommodation, taxi's and meals. He believes that a transfer was never booked to pick them up as when he phoned the reps office today they didn't know anything about a transfer. Considering he had been phoning them 2 days before hand and filled a form for the transfer somebody would of realise a transfer had not been booked. He was picked up from the airport with no problem. In legal terms he can claim breach of contract and claim any loss he has occured.
I am sure he will get good ribbing when he gets home from his mates and especially by me, I won't let him forget this one.
It will be good for a laugh down the pub anyway. We all like to take the P*** out of the misfortune of others.
if your friend is still in turkey and needs any help sorting a flight or with the language tell him to call me my number is on our website. İ am english but am a turkish speaker and used to work for major tour operators so have contacts who may be able to help get him a flight.

Hi I got back last week from Bitez ,our taxi booked through freedom direct and paid for (£60) did not turn up for our flight home and we had to get a taxi to airport ,still trying to get a reply from holiday company.
But did you enjoy your holiday?
The transfer to our Marmaris hotel went well...considering our flight was a few hours late.
However on our return we never heard from the company what time we were to be pick up (which they assured us they would do).
There followed a right old farce on the morning of our departure with me phoning Transfersonly, only to be told we were down as a 'no show' at the airport when we flew in, and that they most definitely hadn't pick us up (which was rubbish as we were greeted by someone with our names written on a Transfersonly board) !
After much arguing and phonecalls back & to, we were told we were due to be picked up at 7pm (for a 3pm flight !), ......then we would be picked up in an hour and a half....and finally we got a call to our room, just half an hour later, to vacate the hotel urgently, as the transfer coach was waiting outside !!!
So I can fully sympathise with your friends...DIY is great...but not quite so great when it goes wrong !
