From where?
And when in July?

I have found that Emirates is about £485 before 14th July (thats from Gatwick). The prices for Emirates go up after 14 - by over £300 pounds (school holidays).
Qatar are around £520 pounds after 14th July.
Try Travelbag or Asda.

the date i was looking at was 9th July , you are right the cost does go up after 14th, this year we paid £581 for the same flight on 15th July.

we are looking at the 18th. I really would prefer to get connections right from Aberdeen as it can be awkward otherwise and I find I may an overnight in London if I've to get there myself.

Fiona,

If you can get yourself down to Glasgow, there are some seats through to Bangkok on Emirates on the 18th (not many) - at a guess (as don't know return date) you'll be paying £570 for a seat only (have to pay upfront) or around £650 inc. a couple of nights accommodation (don't have to pay until closer to the time?).

As you pay about £80 less in tax in Emirates, it's almost better than the other airlines you can get from London - Gulf being around £550, but i'd hold off Gulf - have a bad feeling about them at the mo.

thanks Sam
am not sure about Glasgow as we would have to take the car- and its ok on the way down but not great when you are jetlagged on the way back. For some reason hubby does not want to go through Dubai if he can help it( I liked the Emirates flight we had to Bangkok a couple of years back though)
Mind you, we still can't make our mind up where we are going to from Bangkok  Maybe I should just hold off for the moment

Have you thought about popping over to Amsterdam or Paris on a cheapy and then using maybe Eva or Etihad?

Fiona,

It may not be too fashionable but look at China Airlines via Amsterdam.

The bonud is that you can "through ticket" from any UK airport where there is a BA link to AMS - as CI have a contract with BA.

So BA to AMS and CI to BKK.

We managed to get flights in Nov, travelling Dynasty (Business Class) for less than EVA elite (premium economy).

Try Trailfinders - we found them to be very good.

funnily enough I found a cheap China Airlines flight when I first started looking but a friend of OH had just flown with them to Bangkok and he hated it :( He said it was a nightmare flight. Probably just a one off but its a no go for OH.
Perhaps it just too early to get good flight prices.
I'm going to try trailfinders and also a few TOs with the itinery we eventually decide upon.(BKK+ Laos? Hanoi?+Hua hin? Koh Samui?)

I have to admit when I flew China Airlines via Amsterdam they were very good. They have got the service and comfort aspect right its there safety record I was more worried about.

 For July 18th? You'd better get a move on! I'm already seeing flights filling up!

If you save sufficient money by using Aberdeen, then there are some cheaper seats left on July 20th on KLM. Obviously depending when you come back. Probably £100 than using a London Airport?
