Now that my L plates are off, the links that should have been in previous posts;
Details in English about the Rail & Fly cheap train ticket for use in connection with certain airlines.
Also in English, Schoenes Weekend (Happy Weekend) to travel long distances for not a lot of money at the weekend
Baisc intro to the Bayern ticket and other individual State tickets, also specific detail about the Bayern Ticket in German
In German, the Werdenfels Ticket day pass for the Mittenwald area back to the Greater Munich boundary
In German, DB Night trains own website where they hide the offers for overnight travel. Most of this seems to be only available in German but the important booking page is also in English. And no worries about the tickets being posted back from Germany because they aren't, they're issued as PDF files to print at home.
Thanks a million for the extremely useful information which I will definitely use when planning my trip later next year. If I win another holiday though Mittenwald will need to wait until 2009!!
You would probably be better off travelling by ferry to Holland and then travel by train from there. When you get to europe train travel is easy and cheap. Depending on much rail travel you are going to be doing rail europe (sometimes called interrail) are quite good, they do tickets that will cover all rail tavel over a certain period to wherever you want to go (either country tickets, multi country tickets or whole of europe tickets). If you are planning long journeys then night trains are very good as well though you need to book in advance because they get full very quickly. Hope this is useful!
welcome to HT yexlm
