Having just not long started a new job, i now find myself with a lot of time off after years of working in a factory and only getting set holidays. In fact if i could afford it i could go away every 3 weeks, my wife can take her holidays anytime. So what i'm looking for is a winter holiday at the beginning of January for myself, my wife and infant son who will be around 13 months.
We are looking for reasonable weather and cheapish. Could any of you nice people recommend anywhere nice for us.
Cheers
Nezi
Egypt is now a very popular winter destination but a lot of it is All inclusive if you like that.
With an infant son the Canaries might be a better option being a little shorter flight. Madeira is another option but a bit quieter than say tenerife ( the main resorts before all the quiet tenerife lovers shoot me down ).
Kind Regards

To be honest for reasonable weather i would suggest the canaries in January, we've been before and had snow on the ground at Manchester Airport and 4 hours later got off the plane in Tenerife to temps in the high 20's and low 30's
This may not be your cheapest option though, Majorca and Costa del Sol offer year round holidays but i would be dubious of the weather.... Having said that we went to Majorca last November and it was lovely - not sunbathing weather but shorts and t-shirts in the day and only a light jacket at night.
I guess it depends on your priorities and what you want from your holiday...personally i would spend the bit extra for the better weather..we're off to Lanzarote for the first time on 22nd November.
We have been to Tenerife at new year before and the weather was great but 4.5 hours might be too much for the wee man. we have also been to Algarve and Fuengirola at Christmas/New year time and both were reasonable weather but not too sure about Fuengirola, would love to go back to the Algarve as it is a lovely place.
we are going to tunisia 2nd jan for a week, i got a very good price going to PEk all inc with thomsons and used a £100 voucher too, weather can be good but it is a bit risky, but hotel as indoor pool, so we have decided to risk it , good hotel has got good reviews too
I would agree with Stuart . The red Sea in Egypt would be a good choice and some great prices too . Sun all year , very ltttle rain if anything . temps would probably be early 20,s.
lyn i was pricing egypt when we were looking for jan and prices were coming out a lot more hence booking tunisia lol, saved about £500 for 3 of us, although egypt would have better weather the price put me off ,nezi mentioned cheapish and ive yet to find a cheap deal to egypt unless im not looking hard enough lol.
With our son not costing anything i'm really looking for a cheap one as we are going away in 2 weeks to majorca. Probably around the £5-600 for everything.
Karen /Nezi. Couldnt resist taking up that challenge not sure what airport you wanted Nezi but just had a quick look on thomsons/portland to start with at the Egypt prices to see if there is anything in your budget and Thomsons and portland both have the three corners El Wekala in Taba(mostly decent reviews) for just over £600 flying on the 4th / 9th /11th from london or for a little more hilton coral in Nuweiba which you can do for £650 . both get decent reviews and are A/I . we are going to the hilton coral ourselves at easter after all the good reviews here . You will be able to get those prices down more as well by entering one of the many promotional codes at checkout. Its worth bearing in mind though that both these resorts will be more geared up to a relaxing holiday .
thats not bad, but lyn i needed to go the latest on 2nd jan as ive used up so many school hol allowances hence prices being so much more for us and coming out around £1200 all inc, ive got this tunisian holiday for £672 all inc for 3 of us so i think thats a great price, i know the weather wont be as good etc, but its a week away lol, egypt might be a possibility 1 day lol
have a fab time where ever you choose
We would be looking to fly from Glasgow or Newcastle as they are about the same distance from us. Prestwick is closer but dont really want to fly from there and Edinburgh is a no-no as we have had a bad experience there.
We are probably looking at Spain, Algarve, or Canaries at a push. Dont fancy Malta or Red Sea and Turkey, Greece dont excite us.
What is cyprus like in January??
Hubby and i did Tenerife in January quite some years ago (prob about 5/6) and even then for a 'cheap' all inclusive we paid around the £6-700 mark so you may struggle for AI on your budget. Havaing said that you should def find a s/c holiday for this.... or have you thought of booking everything independently???
It depends if you want to sit around a pool as I think only the canaries on your list is going to give you this. With an infant being able to go in the pool or a paddle in the sea is usually a must.
Kind Regards

I've been to both Lanzarote and Fuerteventura early in the year and had rainy days during both holidays When the sun did shine it was pleasant though.
Went to Lanzarote for my Daughters 30th two years ago, and had really nice day weather, just a little cool at night. We went to Playa Blanca, and I would recommend it.
Hi Cricketwatcher - did you find there was much going on / open in Playa Blanca? We are off to the Papagayo Arena on 22nd November... thanks
If you want cheap there are loads of companies who specialise in the canary islands on teletext. Jan there should be some good late booking bargains.
1977, everything was open. Shops etc, we did the submarine excursion which was great. Make sure if you try it you get the real submarine, and not the semi-submersible boat. PB is very quiet, but nice. Some good restaurants. We also took the ferry to Fuerteventura.
If your are worried about the flight time and taking a baby/toddler with you, the baby/toddler will be fine. I wouldn't worry about the flight time. I took both my kids on holiday when they were babies/toddlers and never had a problem with a long flight.
