We booked flights to fuerteventura with Airtours for last summer hols. " for 2 adults 2 children aged 11 and 4. Got an e-ticket which clearly stated 2 adults and 2 children. Got to gatwick for our MYT flight and to be told they have us on thier system as 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant!! After 55 minutes of arguing (very politely!) we were told its ok they have a spare seat!! Laughable I know! So I wasnt happy with this and asked for confirmation that we will all have seats on the way home. This is confirmed we are given 4 boarding passes, 2 for adults, 1 for a child and 1 for an infant with an extra seat but in the wrong name!! Querie this but told this was ok. (Great in the case of an emergency to be down on records as someone else I would imagine, NOT!) Anyway so then our flight is delayed for about 7 hours. Not a problem these things happen..... except now they dont have a plane big enough to take over 300 of us there. So we all had to be off loaded. Some were taken to luton to get a flight from there, some were flown to lanzarote the next day and ferried over to fuerteventura and then the rest of us were being flown out the same day on a smaller plane. Now us being down as a party of 3 and 1 infant (even though it clearly stated on our ticket 2 adults and 2 children) were given 3 seats!! Can you believe this?! I was asked was I willing to travel with my 4 yr old on my lap (which is against aviation law!) so I declined and I had paid for a seat so why should we. Finaly another seat was found and then we had to check in again! Yes you guessed it, we had the same row over infant v's child again this time for 45 mins. Still given a boarding pass with infant with the wrong name!! We did have 4 seats.
Anyway we finaly gets there after a scrum to get on the plane as you could sit where you like even though kids were allowed to sit in emergency exits (yes really!) and the passengers were now behaving like animals and MYT had no control over this. ggrrr!!!
So anyway on the way home we go's to check in and was told we cant use our e-ticket as it is not a ticket and we must have lost our tickets. When told we had flown out on this ticket type we was informed by some airtours rep that we couldnt have and must be lying!!
Well by now I am about ready to scream and then some one with some common sence stepped in and explained to the very badly trained staff that this was acceptable! We did however have 4 seats on the plane, hooray!!
So then we get home and I write a letter to airtours about all this, sends the boarding pass off and all evidence I had of thier cock up, sends it recorded delivery and.................... It gets lost in the post!!!
How bloody typical!!
I expect you were fuming for most of the holiday, and on top of that you didn't enjoy Fuerteventura.
Please can you put on the forum your next flight time, departure airport and destination, just in case I am on the same flight. I will know to change the flight to a later one and I will wave to you as I take off.
Seriously I bet you won't be using airtours again, the staff sound usless, the admin people make a mistake and you are accused of lying. I hope you photo copied all your eveidence and sent the photo copies. When tour ops get the orignals they seem to go missing somehow. Have you checked with the post the letter has been signed for.
I hope you have better luck next.
Hi Micky, Sorry to hear of your problems with Airtours. Really wish I hadnt read your post though because I am due to travel flight only this wednesday with Airtours on a mytravel flight from Gatwick, same as you 2 adults and two children travelling on an e ticket. Will let you know how I get on
Cheers everyone. No I didnt photo copy the boarding passes etc. Good old royal mail hey! I woudlnt travel with airtours again over this. Once bitten, twice shy n all. Anyways enjoy your holidays...
I hope you at least enjoyed the wonderful island itself. This sounds like a right sham, and surely recorded delivery entitles you to something for the post getting lost To be honest, this is the kind of problem I'd threaten tabloid involvement with personally, even if you get nothing in compensation perhaps it'll warn others from getting into the same mess. Sounds absolutely shocking.
Slightly off topic, but you'd be surprised (or maybe not) how much recorded delivery mail doesn't actually get recorded. When I was working for a small company which did approx 50 mailings per week, between 10 and 15 items per week didn't get signed for. Then you are at the mercy of an dishonest buyer who says he/she didn't get the goods.
If possible it is always worth photocopying anything important you send as far too much gets 'lost', recorded delivery or not. My forms for repayment of tax got 'mislaid' somewhere last year.
How long ago was your holiday? I can't seem to find those details in your message. I only ask because as you will be aware there has been a series of Postal Strikes just lately, so your letter might still be held up in the back-log of undelivered mail.sends it recorded delivery and.................... It gets lost in the post!!!
Just a thought
Oh no this was last august. Happens all the time with our post. I never wanted compensation or anything just answers really. How can they ask a 4 yr old to sit on an adults lap??
How can they ask a 4 yr old to sit on an adults lap??
They can't. I'd hope someone on the plane would have stopped it (had you agreed!), if not they would have been torn to shreds by the CAA.
I can't comprehend why someone would suggest something so stupid - I'd even hope it was a bad attempt at a joke. If it wasn't they are clearly in the wrong job!
It really wasnt a joke. Due to the plane change and the chaos (esecially being the summer school hols, very busy) that was one solution the duty manager came up with. We did write to the caa and informed them of this and of the children allowed to sit in emergency exit seats throughout the flight and they werent really interested saying some old toot about the airlines discretion etc! Laughable in some respect and our 4 year old was even given the wrong name on her boarding pass too.
