Like anyone anywhere its really up to you to make friends. You are going 'off season' so there is a good chance that there will probably be a lot of single folks albeit older folks who like you will hope to make friends and socialise etc.

Regarding Maltese people I'm always mindful that they are not on hols like us visitors but are busy with their own lives and making a living etc. That said I've always found them extremely friendly and helpful. I've never had a problem socialising with them especially if you choose to become a regular in their bar or restaurant!

I agree with Trev I am sure you will have no difficulty making friends amongst the Maltese people. We have found a lot of friends during our many holidays in Malta and visit them all when we are there which takes up half the holiday but they are always so pleased to see us.

They all welcome you with open arms and it is a pleasure to visit them.
