It all started over three years ago when my grandmother dropped a pile of coupons on the kitchen table and says "would you like a cruise for £10?". Of course the answer was yes! Like so many on these boards I fought to get my promised Daily Express cruise succeeding in September 2005 with a wonderful cruise on MSC Opera from Venice to Istanbul.
Despite being only in my 20s I don't keep in very good health, and I've no one to travel with so i discovered that cruising is the ideal way to travel. You relax and get spoiled and pampered and all these fantastic exotic places come to you!
I came home and raved on about it so much that my parents, two lots of aunts and uncles, my gran and a couple of sets of friends all booked, some more than once - and all thoroughly enjoyed it. Since then i've returned to MSC to sail on Armonia all the way from Genoa in Italy to Rio in Brazil, taking 17 wonderful days to get there.
In a week's time i embark on an even more ambitious voyage. I sail on Carnival's brand new Freedom from Rome to Miami for two weeks, then i transfer to Celebrity's Infinity on Nov 11th in Fort Lauderdale which sails through the Panama Canal eventually ending in Valpraiso for Santiago, almost half a world away. The flight home is going to be dreadful of course but it'll be bearable with a sleeping pill and knowing that i've seen so many exotic places.
That Daily Express £10 cruise has been very, very expensive!!!
Well done Craig! It sounds as if a whole new world had opened up for you. Wish I could afford such long and exotic cruises!
Several of my friends have now succumbed to the addiction too
There is no cure, except to have frequent seafaring episodes
It is so addictive. You only have to look that how the cruise market increases each year. Now methadone is available as a substitute for heroin and nicotine patches for cigarettes so I wonder what is available for cruising addiction?
The Daily Express must have been responsible for a good number of extra cruise booking from people like myself who would never have considered it before. I only hope that all who claimed will get to experience it in the end.
Sounds like a fun time you will have!!
Could you tell me do Daily Express still do Cruises for £10 and at what time of year do they advertise it???
cheers Liz.
Unfortunately I doubt the DE will be doing £10 cruises again given the fiasco of their last offer.
Like Hoover with their flight offer before them I think the Daily Express has probably learnt a very expensive lesson
It's a great time to go, as the nights draw in, then when you get back you can start planning the next one!
Have a wonderful time on your big trip, Craig, bon voyage!
