Depends where you want to be. There is a direct Aerobus (20-30 minutes ride) into Plaza Catalunya, via a couple of other stops, which is right in the centre at the top right of Las Ramblas. We used the Hotel Gran Ducat, a three star 150 metres from the drop-off point, which we would definitely use next time. It was priced into our TA deal, so not sure about cost, but you can try venere.com or easyjet hotels etc. for pricing. Simple 20 euro taxi ride to the port on embarkation day and you will get on the ship any time after 10.30am no matter when your supposed embarkation time is....absolutely no doubt in that!
We live near Glasgow and drove down to Newcastle earlier this month for a direct easyjet flight which was considerably cheaper than flyglobespan the only direct flight into the City of Barcelona airport from Scotland. As you will know Newcastle is even quicker from the Edinburgh area than from the western side.
We generally cruise twice a year, because of excellent deals on inside cabins. You will see lots of posts, but keep an eye on http://www.vacationstogo.com who offer excellent deals too. Sometimes the TA deals available are better, but sometimes VTG are superbly priced.
Good luck in your search for an earlier cruise.
I am on Century at the minute and after a few days of not so good weather I am right here in Malaga at the port after doing some shopping!!
The weather is glorious and so I am back to eat of course and lie out on the deck.
Any of you out there I would say grab any deals you can find and always remember that if the price falls then X Princess and RCI will honour that the price drop.
Anyone interested in Alaska sailing from San Francisco for 15 nights on Mercury there is a lead in price of 398 pounds for cruise only. Grade 4 ocean view is only 498. Also if you look at the web site lower grades are more expensive so always check on the web site. I have had 2 price drops for a friend of 215 pounds plus a further 78 so taking the cruise down and they fly back from Vancouver.
must run

If anyone spots anything leaving 26th Nov-about 5th Dec Med or Canaries can you let me know
Leaves Venice, goes Dubrovnik, Santorini, Tunis, Malaga, Cadiz, finishing at Lisbon. Price for inside is $599 plus taxes, so may end up $700ish which is £350 with excellent dollar rate at present. Not sure where you live, as flights to Venice/Lisbon are not always straightforward!!
Yes it as to be after the 25th Hubby as a pool meeting that cant be moved on the Sunday which he informed me after I got prices for the Celebrity CC at £669 and by then all the others later had gone. Only one I have come across now is Fred Olsen Canaries
Only thing I see for the 26th is Voyager of the Seas doing a 12 night Barcelona to Canaries and return, but that would take you 3 days beyond 5th December. Cost is £799 inside with cruise365.com, including flights and overnight hotel in Barcelona....sorry, cannot see anything else suitable.
I will check 365.
Last leaving date is 5th I dont have to be back by then ...thanks again for looking
We stayed in the three star Hotel Gran Ducat, next to Plaza Catalunya which is only 150 metres from the aerobus drop-off point. The hotel they first offered was four star but out of centre, and we asked them to change and they were able to include breakfast at Gran Ducat, which we would not hesitate to use next time. Because they take you out previous day the deal will not include transfers, but very easy to transfer in Barcelona and only 20 euro taxi down to cruise terminal. They will let you on ship from 11.00am despite tickets saying 2.00pm!
Why not join our Gem 9n TA cruise 3Dec now well under £200pp Barcelona flights still cheap not sure about the flights back.
But getting Kev to do a TA is another matter. I have only just talked him into a another cruise so best not push my luck
I have sent a request through to 365 so I will wait and see what happens I have also gone on waitlist for Oriana for December

hamrag, Have you booked direct with vacationstogo how do you get your tickets
It is a good idea with the US cruise lines to do all the paperwork on-line before you leave it makes checkin much quicker.
I needed a single occupancy and whilst I could have had this deal including the domestic flight for £1699 I have opted to fly with BA direct from Manchester 2nights superior 4* and sole occupancy which has cost me £145 more but I will have no waiting around for onward flights etc.
Also I will have the US baggage allowance ie 2 bags weighing 23K plus 10K cabin baggage.
This year in March BMI would not recognise the BA allowance and I had to pay £45 on the outward trip on the shuttle but I got away with it on the return journey. I could have gone with Virgin out of Heathrow with a cost of £1745 but for me it is about peace of mind etc.
I took the prices back to my own ALI at Scotlands Cruise Centre and she worked hard to put this together for me. Hotel has excellent reviews on the Trip Advisor 4*+ right in Manhattan at Times Square.
Everything is now confirmed Ali told me always to give her chance to quote. I looked at their web site and it say telling me for the grade without flights or hotel it was saying £1888 for a D6 and £2020 for a D4 so it looked impossible!
Everything is possible and if you want to take my advice on this then go for it.

VTG will confirm your booking electronically, with all the terms and conditions etc. The good thing is that, incredibly given our UK way of things, it is possible to cancel up to between 2-3 months of the cruise and receive your deposit back in full!!
What you do is present this as your "ticket" at the cruise terminal when boarding. As W/J says you can do the check-in electronically, no matter where and how booked, and this saves time when you present yourself on board.
We used VTG last year, and had no hesitation in booking with them again for next year. Another good company is check-in cruise club, based near Durham in England, website is cruise365.com and we used them for our two cruises this year, but VTG had the cruise we wanted next year at an incredible price, for one day only. From time to time they do one day only offers with a particular cruiseline. Just a matter of keeping an eye out for best deals.
hamrag, Thanks so much for taking the time to answer me. I will look into this way of booking. I am going in June but just booked with local TA.
$25-$150 per cabin shipboard credit on ALL 2007 & 2008 SAILINGS!
ALL Feb-Dec 2008 CRUISES: $300/cabin savings booklets!
and the 30th May out of and back into southampton sailing is showing 1178 USD 14 nights
Barcelona to Southampton is showing 1009 USD 13 nights
The Norwegian Jade price Travelmandy is indicating for 30 May is excellent for those who missed out on the $1010 price which was available a month or so ago for 2 days only. Have not seen it since then for less than about $1500, including all taxes etc.
I dont think that inc tax the site was down so I couldnt get a final price but its still cheaper than its been for a long time
