We went to Protaras first 2 weeks of July a couple of years ago,and to Paphos first 2 weeks of July this year and yes it is hot compared with Spain etc but you get acclimatised very quickly and in both holidays that we went there we had cloudless skies both weeks which is pretty much gaurenteed there. We went with our 2 kids aged 14 and 11 and they love it and the heat doesn't bother them. The main difference we find is the night temperatures which rarely dropped below 28C in the middle of the night so get somewhere with air conditioning as you will need it.In Fuengirola,Spain we had aircon but never hardly used it. :D

I normally go the first two weeks of July, it is very hot but thats what I love.

This year there were days that were in the 40's. Fantastic.

I always go to Cyprus in May/June and September and the weathers glorious and bearable.

However this year I went 10th July for 2 weeks due to other friends work commitments, I'd been once before at the end of July beginning of August and vowed never again, but had no choice this year.

The heat and humidity was terrific, very, very uncomfortable  Every day was in the 40s and at 9pm in the evening it was still late 20s early 30s. The humidity was regularly 90%. Our photos are testament to the fact all 7 of us were "glowing" shall we say in every photo especially in the evenings :? Having said that 2007 has been a very hot year throughout for Cyprus and many locals said it was unusually hot.

I can testify to it being warm every month as I went back for 2 weeks on the 10th October and it was still late 70s every day, but without the humidity....thank god. It was a beautiful holiday for so late in the year.

I think it's the risk you take if you go in July & August, but even on a "normal" year they're the hottest months, which is great if you like all the heat but if not then it can ruin a holiday IMO.

Thanks for all your honest opinions everyone.
I love the heat myself 8) , but think the humidity etc may be too much for my wife and kids.
We can only go during the school summer holidays, and they are end June- beginning of August.

Looks like it may be Majorca again, but as we just got a new car we may be unable to go to Protaras next year, as well, in October. The thought of that makes me really sad as Cyprus is absolutely fantastic.

Everyone said we'd be hooked if we went- and they have been proven correct.

Cheers y'all

hi shoestring, always remember mate that you are the king of the castle and if you wish to go to protaras in july then thats where you go!!!
its not like your asking the wife and kids to go tenting it in the rain at grimsby, now thats unbearable!
you are taking your family to a beautiful island with beautiful (all be it hot) sunshine and even providing a swimming pool where they can cool to their hearts content, followed by lots of great food, elvis  and warm sultry nights
you need to be a man and just say "we're doing protaras so belt up!"
your family will respect you for it
got to go mate, wife home any minute and not finished ironing yet.....
