We have done 3 trips on rice boats, 2 with Daytripper & once with Johns Boats. The Day Tripper one was best.
If she is going on a package then the reps will try to flog her one, it sholud be the Day Tripper one. There are 4 cabins on this boat each accomodates 2 people. Book early as places go quickly.

we done it jan 07. will probably do it again in a couple of weeks time, in december, cos' we loved it!!! it's a chance to really a great chance to chill out, theres nothing for you to do but watch the scenery and the wildlife, eat drink and be merry. just like christmas!!
the food on the boat is really quite good. its prepared by Raj and his crew, and you won't go hungry.
recommend you book it with daytrippers, it was just £56 in jan.
hope this helps, BOB :smokin

we went with Johns Boat Tours last Easter - it was fantastic - not cheap at about £45 each but well worth it. There were only 4 of us on the boat and we were treated like royalty!

Thanks all for your help.

Well they are back (got home Friday) they went on the Rice Boat trip booked through their tour operator and the boat was full of rats!!!

They'd had their meal ( ) and were enjoying a few drinks with company when a couple came down to say they'd just seen 2 rats in their room. They then realised that the 'boat creaking' noises that they'd heard were rats scuttling across the top of the boat as someone else saw one jump in the river. :yikes
They all phoned the rep who told them to get off the boat and they would send a taxi for them (midnight by now) so a little rowing boat took the boat load off the ship to the shore and a taxi took them back to the hotel.

After much argie bargie with the rep my friends got a full refund.

My boyfriend and I were really interested in this trip last year, but we couldn't get booked up as it was so popular!!

I'm not sure whether to do it now, as this is the first bad report I have heard.

Am not sure which boat they were on and am off on holiday tomorrow but will find out when I get back if I don't speak to them beforehand.

Another couple who'd done the trip showed them a bag they had with them with a gnawed strap from when they'd done the trip earlier.

I quite fancied that trip, but definately not going on it now. Fancy being on a boat with rats???? Yuk!!!!!!

what i would say is don't let a few rats spoil a lovely trip you'll kick yourself if you dont try it HONEST.

Have spoken to my friend and she said the trip was called the Wind in the Willows but it's also used for the Jewel in the Crown trip.

I think more to the point is rats running around in your sleeping quarters and also you eat on board this boat - rats carry diseases and urinate all over the place. :tdown

don't know what boat you were on, but, we had a fantastic time on the double deck rice boat!! we have aready been there this year, and have been dissapointed to learn, that, that boat is no longer used for these trips. have to say though, never had any trouble with rats!! it was a fabulous trip.

There are rats everywhere, even in the UK.

We saw a bit fat rat when we were staying at the Abalone hotel in Arpora about 3 years ago.

We were having a night cap around 11pm, because we had to get up early for our return flight, and my mum saw a rat run towards the sunbeds at the side of the pool.

The other week i saw a rat near Morrisons supermarket, where a swimming pool was knocked down, so now its just a big hole of mud, with no lights.

Rats are everywhere, but i know for a fact i wouldnt want to be stuck on a boat with them :yuck :yuck

We're interested in doing an overnight stay on a rice boat. Staying in North Goa. I've checked Eddies Daytrippers site, but can see only a houseboat trip. Any idea of the best company to use for a rice boat - or are they only available in Kerala?
