Currently, the only budget airlines flying directly to Bulgaria are Wizz Air (Luton - Burgas, summer season only) & Easyjet (Gatwick - Sofia, winter season only).

As far as I'm aware, no other budget airlines have yet announced any plans to fly to Bulgaria in 2008, whether from Birmingham or any other UK airports. Even Easyjet have not indicated any plans to extend their current service into the summer season.

When you consider that Balkan Holidays and other tour operators had to reschedule/cancel/combine flights from different UK airports to the Bulgarian resorts this summer, it may not yet be seen as a potentially profitable destination by the budget airline operators.

Further to my post above, Wizz Air are no longer showing Burgas as one of their destinations on the website, neither does the Luton Airport website currently offer Wizz Air flights as an option for test summer departure dates.

Hi Baldur, there appears to be quite a bit of uncertainty about the flights to Bourgas from Luton with Wizz, the Wizz office in Sofia said the flights would be on the Wizz web site from Jan 08 for Bourgas, they are showing as available on the Bourgas Airport website from 30th Mar, guess for now we will just have to wait and see. There is also another low cost airline starting up from Cardiff, with rumours of flights to Bourgas, so again, watch this space, Paul.

As you say, time will tell - glad that I've already booked my scheduled flights to/from Varna for next summer.

<Edit> Wizz Air have announced a new internal route for summer 2008 Sofia-Varna with one-way fares from €9.99, including all taxes and charges, which may be useful, in combination with UK-Sofia flights, for people who have found that some tour operators have withdrawn their Varna flights in favour of Burgas.
