I am looking for a holiday at the beginning of May for 2 adults and 2 children, 1 is 8 and 1 is 11 (years old). We have been to Tenerife and now would now like to try Gran Canaria but not sure which resort is best. We like it busy with plenty to do. We went to ayia napa and playa de las americas and loved it. Which resort is best and can anyone recommend any good hotels that are near to everything ie beach and bars restaurants etc? and preferably at least half board.
Thanks and Happy New Year for 2008...and safe travels to you all.
just read them but still cant decide. We have been told that one of the resorts has allot of transvestites, i do not want to offend anyone, and we are not offended by them but we have children hence the decision of where to go.
food wise I would say go self catering, most people do in PUERTO RICO, the meals are cheap & plenty off choice.
with PUERTO RICO being in a valley you will find it warmer than the rest of the island.
Puerto Rico
It's sheltered so is hotter
it's got nightlife
it's got daylife
loads of shops
loads of bars
Even more Restaurants than bars and most open for Breakfast
2 good beaches
ferries and buses all around the island
lots to do for grown ups and kiddies or just vegetate on the beaches Amandores is good for swimming but does shlve rapidily
Oh BTW saw ONE trannie only - and he was PR for a "ladies night out" and that didn't start until 2am the wife went and thoroughly enjoyed it
Puerto Rico is a FAMILY orientated place especially the restaurants they bend over backwards to provide for your kids
the only thing I'd say is don't buy a video camera for €10 or even €20 you can guess why

It regards hotels it is easier to go self catering as there are LOADS of restaurants that cater for all types of eater. And your not tied down, the majority of accomodation here is self catering. The 2 main hotels are the RIU vistamar and the Gloria Palace. The Riosol offers both Self catering and Half board.
If you have any fancies just ask here or PM me
Hope to see you soon
Neil the Beaver...were looking at the Marina Suites, any views on them? We defo want to go to Puerto Rico now not Playa del ingles though...Thanks
marina suites, are really nice, only a couple of years old. pool is good for kids i think as it has steps all the way along one side and isnt to deep, looks right out to sea.the hotel looks out onto the marina. So really close for dolphin trips and days like that. its a pleasent walk to the beach only about 5/10 mins if that. Has a few little (tacky) shops near by and some nice bars and restaurants. about 15 mins walk to bus stop and 20 to the main commercial centre. Only a couple of euros in a cab. Posted a map on the Isla Bonita post on gran canaria forum if you want to see, Marina Suites are bottom right corner. Anything specific youd like to know?
Neilthe Beaver.....thanks for your advice, We have been and booked it today, coming out in May, hope weather will ber hot! Can you recommend any good bars and restaurants near by?
Thanks
to the water park its just a stroll, say 15-20 min just taking it easy and if you have booked the MARINA SUITES its a flat walk.
The one in rico is currently moving toward the end of some fairly extensive refurbishment and at the moment the childrens area is partially closed. But the majority of the park is unaffected.
You have a small commericial centre just up the hill from the suites, which has El Gaitero, one of my fav restaurants. you also have yogi and bennys and the wig wam bar. Let me know what sort of bars you are looking for, and the sort of food you would like and i'll try my best, or have a peep on the restaurant thread theres some goodies there.
See you soon!
We are going to GC for Feb half-term. Will the water in the water-parks be warm enough at that time of year?
Hi there you made a good choice choosing puerto rico, and the marina suites we passed them a few times and they look lovely. We stayed in pr in may 07 and the weather was brilliant 32c ,also if you venture to the commercial centre you have to try the restaurant SAN MIGUEL it's really nice ,good value for money and big portions there is normally a queue between 6-8:30pm but when we went which was about 6 ish we only had to wait 1 minute and it was worth the wait, also fat cats on the beachfront is nice british food ,ate there a few times aswell ,anyway hope yous enjoy your hols we back ther in september!
The waterparks are fine during the "winter" months, water is cool (cold ) in most pools inc most hotels, but at least with the water parks you tend not to be in them too long!! And there is always the nice warm sunshine to warm up in! Weather is usually pretty good, warm mid to high 20s some time low 30s. Afternoons can get a little cloudy from around 3 or 4. Evenings a little cooler so bring a jacket. Best thing about the waterparks this time of year is they arent rammed full, so there a people there but the queues are alot smaller than in the peak summer months.
Great, thanks Neilthebeaver. We're really looking forward to our holiday.
NeilTheBeaver....how long roughly in taxt to the waterpark in puerto rico? and is there anything in area for kids to do, ie fair or anything. Thanks for all your advice and answering my questions.
and
IF you were fit it's a 25 minute walk to the Centro Comercial down the hill (but not the 900 steps)
from the marina suites just a couple of mins, about 3euro. theres a few things around for the kids, bungy trampolines seem to be the favourite, loads of mini golf action!! For a "fair", Holiday World in Maspalomas is pretty good, rides, bowling alleys etc. At the marina suites i think Eddy is still the entertainer there he does all sorts for adults and kids in the day not to sure what happens in the night time though. La Fiesta and Tropicana seem to be the more child friendly of the bars in the main centre, and of course all the dreaded arcades!! And depending on how adventurous you are you can try scuba diving in the pool at the marina suites form ages 8 and up!
how far is the centro center, commercial center and europa center from Marina Suites? Are they the same thing? But if not what are the distamnces roughly from the hotel, were all relatively young and fit.
