We're going to be staying at the King's cross Travelodge for a night later this month. Can anyone suggest any good places for food in that area? We would be looking for somewhere to have breakfast or dinner that isn't too expensive or formal.
Thanks in advance!
If you're close to the station i'd get the tube for more choice. Tottenham Court Road Stn is a good stop with several inexpensive/informal options. From there it's a 5 minute walk to New Oxford St and you'll find a great little place 'Italian Kitchen' or a 5 min walk to Soho offers 'Tai Buffet' on Greek Street, all you can eat buffet for £6 or on Old Compton Street there's a great little pizzeria (forget the name but green decor) where you can get a huge pizza for £5 and you can take your own wine there too. - All good, tried and tested by myself!
Thanks for the info. We probably won't have time to go out of the area - we're mixing business with pleasure and will be rather rushed to fit in everything we want to do - so it's good to know about the Pizza Express. We may go for the Travelodge buffet if we can't find anything else but I was hoping for something a bit cheaper - maybe that's too much to ask for in London?
The breccy looked poor - Im vegan so went into town for breakfast. I would second the vote for the Tai Buffet - selection was fab (the one i went to was all vegan but meat eaters in there who loved it!) Breccy wise there are cafes that looked ok if after a 'fry up' i opted for a juice bar in town.
I recall seeing a couple of italian bistros that looked good near Kings cross, theres also lots of good Indian buffet places near to Euston, just down the road. There is a pizza express opposite Eueston i think?
This guide was very useful to me:

We stayed at the Farringdon Travel Lodge just after Christmas -This is just a couple minutes walk further on from the Kings Cross one - We always stopped for breakfast at a little cafe on the way to the station -it was ideal - fresh cooked food, good choice of menu, very friendly family run (not English) and damn good prices. But sorry I cant remember the name - it seemes quite new and already popular with the locals.
Thanks for the extra info. I think we'll just have a snoop around when we get there on Sunday and see what we can find.
We had a bit of a nightmare trying to find somewhere to have dinner though. We had planned to go to the Leicester Square area, but there were delays on the Tube so we were worried we wouldn't get back to the station in time. We tried to find the Pizza Express by King's Cross but couldn't see it so ended up eating chips from a paper cone in a chippy opposite the station. Not very glamourous but it filled a hole!
Immediately opposite the royal Scot Travelodge there are about six takeaway places but they are all pretty average.
