Hello, just a couple of questions
Do taxi drivers at the airport accept a 10 pound note for payment, as when we were at the airport last year we changed some money into ruppees, but the guy at the desk said the minimum we can change is 40pounds, and i dont want to do that .
Also, where is the nearest money exchange shop to the riverside guest house?
Donna might know this
Thanks
Nicola
taxi drivers will accept english money we've done that on a couple of occasions. If we've not used that option, we just change money at the hotel when we arrive and ask the taxi driver to wait while we do this. Can't help you with the nearest money exchange to your hotel, but your taxi driver will no doubt know somewhere. Whatever option you choose you should't have any problems.

You could always check with your driver and worst case, if they won't go back in and and change some. Or, stop at exchange place on the way to your hotel and change some up to pay him. We used a exchange place just in front of the Silver Sands shack. Their rates were quite good.
Last year, they had changed their policy, so you had to take your passport, even to change up cash, but, they would take a copy and keep it on record, so they had it for future exchanges. This saved having to keep taking a passport out with us every time we changed money up.
There will not be any shops open at 6am, thats when we get to Goa, so i think we will pay the taxi in sterling.
Come to think of it, we might need to change money to pay for the hotel safety deposit box.
Im not sure how much they charge where im going.
You could always stop at an ATM on your way to the hotel and get some rupees or cash money at the hotel is another option. Ive never paid the taxi driver with Sterling but I am sure it is acceptable. We use the same taxi driver all the time. He collects us at the aiport and takes us to the Marinha Dourada. He comes back in a couple of hours and takes us to the beach at that point we go to the exchange shop or ATM and get some rupees so we can pay him.
We always use the exchange at the back of squeeze and along the road a bit it's called money fortune or something like that I know it's got fortune in it. I'll ask at home and let you know for sure tomorrow, I'm terrible with names of places. Or there is a little shop next door to the Riverside Regency (over the other side of the river to you) that we sometimes change smaller amounts, she is a sweet little lady in there!

Also Nicola there is another pay phone at Baga Beach, right behind the Oceanic, nearer the road, in a little restaurnt/bar called Sea Pearl. He has two pay phones and is very very cheap. When I went with my friend last April I used to phone my OH every single morning before he went to work. I would be on the phone for a good 15 or 20 minutes and it normally cost about £1-£1.20.
If you plan on using the taxi booth on the airport compound it is pre-pay, ie you pay the guy at the booth - not the driver. Not sure if the booth takes sterling???

PS have a safe trip
Thank you
Apparently there is a cash machine outside the terminal, could be worth drawing £20 out just for the cab.
got a cab from the booth on the left as you come out the terminal (Christmas week), told the girl I had no rupees she said OK pay in pounds.
The ticket she gave me was for 645 rupees this was to Calangute, gave the cabbie a tenner, he was fine with this as he got 135 rupee tip as the rate at that time was 78 rupees to the pound, hope this helps.

I think i may try and withdraw some money from the cash machine outside the airport, failing that i will pay in pounds.
Thanks again everyone for your great help
