what a shame your wife was ill Ian. Its good to know what you thought about the hospital treatment though. Thanks for the hotel reviews- they are always useful for others. What did you think of the restaurants and bars in Cha Am- or did you go to Hua Hin in the evening? Did you do any trips?

Hi Fiona. The Regent Chalets are 7 k from Cha am and 15k from Hua Hin so pretty much out of the way.We used to go to Bang Kwai ( locals pronounce it like that but I don't think you spell it that way ) it's really on the site but with good old Thai prices and Restaurants etc.As I said in one of my earlier posts it's so much cheaper there.Hua Hin has a great Market and you can eat from the stalls there and they sell all kinds of food and I don2t think that it would make you ill.If you stay on site and go to Bang Kwai then you eat at 'Kings' the food is excellent and quite cheap. The drinks are also cheap compared to the room or Hotel Restaurants. Hope that this helps.

Hi All,

I'm in Hua Hin at the moment and it's raining :( :que hence I'm on the internet!!

There's a flat rate with the public taxi's from Bangkok airport to Hua Hin of 2800 baht so Cha'am should be a little cheaper.

Hua Hin is very nice, not as sleazy as Pattaya but plenty of bars and restaurants. We are in the Hilton which is fantastic, will do a full trip report when we get home next week

Cheers,

TC

oh dear TC- but hopefully it will only be a short shower! We enjoyed the Hilton bar at night and also the attached restuarant- a few years back now but I'm sure they are just as good :)

I spent four days at the Regent Cha Am in 2001 and it rained everyday. There was an ornamental lake in the grounds and there was so much rain the lake flooded and fish were swimming in the car park, the ground floor of the hotel was also underwater. The journey back to Bangkok was a nightmare and took hours as we had to make detours because of flooded roads. Luckily the weather changed once we got to Bangkok and we had three days of beautiful sunshine. This was in February but hopefully your weather will improve Tee Cee.
I am thinking of of visiting Cha Am or Hua Hin for a few days in december after touring Laos but I'm wondering if I am jinxed as my during my first trip there in 1997 I went down with a bad case of pharyngitis which no amount of sunshine could help.

I stayed in the Regent Cha Am in 2001, and got massacred by Jellyfish in the sea! Not a pleasant experience, mind you I should have stayed inside the nets they had in the sea!

Not a bad hotel considering it looks like a prison from the air.
