Just use the ATM machines across Malta. You'll get the best exchange rate using them and only need to take out what you need. You won't need to take any cash with you since there's one in the arrivals lounge at the airport
When, last October herself and I was Corfu we were getting €1.46 to the £ stirling, we have just returned from 4 weeks in Sliema and the best was €1.31 to the pound.
I am NOT blaiming anything on Malta, just remarking on how the Euro has gone up against the British pound. I understand it's expected to go down to about €1.26 soon.

not sure who or what "expects" it to go to 1.26, but ask enough laymen or "experts" and I'm sure you will find someone, somewhere, "expecting" it to go to anywhere from 1.20-1.50 !
