hopefully any work to nearby rooms will be done when you are up and out of your room.

Quite often been to hotels in the Far East where they are renovating the rooms and never noticed the works taking place. Hopefully that will be so in your case.

It would have been nice to have been told about the renovations before we paid. I have documentation about the renos dated 4 days before we paid.
We travel to Asia twice a year and sadly for us we have been effected by renos in nearby rooms. Banging, sawing, tile cutting and the stench of varnish and paint is not a pleasant holiday atmosphere. We generally get ground floor, pool facing rooms and as I'm not into tours (done most of them) I do a lot of relaxing and reading so I'm after peace and quiet.
Once in Bali and they knocked the hotel down next door... by hand. The guys sat banging away at the very wall they were sat on. Every now and again we heard a mighty crash and every body pool side held their breaths until the banging started it up again... meaning no-one got hurt. This went on for two weeks.
Anyway, our Bali specialist travel agent is working hard on it and we may be moving to the Bali Padma... but that's another story as guess what! it's in renovation too. You wouldn't read about it

Update... Bali Mandira have fessed up to TA that they cannot guarantee us a room away from the renos OR even a room at all. Turns out they have overbooked in the deluxe category. Travel agent is livid as she puts a lot of booking their way. Waiting now for the Padma to reply.
Also, we have been asked to select another hotel just in case. We want to stay in the Legian area as we have made plans with friends who are there the same time.

It awful when this kind of thing happens, I hate not being in control. Im not sure where your orignal hotel is but we stayed in the Legian Beach hotel in Sept and had a fab time, hotel and staff very good...........if my memory serves me right you answered a couple of question on this and another forum.

Bali Padma is full too, methinks Bali is going to be chocka block.
We got the last super deluxe room at the Lokha in Legian. All super deluxe are ground floor. Lots of restaurants and bars near by. This might sound a bit grand but as we get back a little over $700 it probably isn't. I hadn't realised but it's not on the beach but it'll have to do now as I've got to the stage where I'm happy to get some where.
I'm keeping the $$$ for reserve and will contact Mida who is a local agent in Bali... she is very good.
