am writing this from baga beach, its almost time for us to come home..the riverside guesthouse we found is nice, cleanish, but iv never ever come across anyone in goa who wants paying so quickly, one waiter sped after me for me to pay for a cup of tea. yes the staff are friendly enough but other english guests are having a good old moan, some rooms it seems arent that clean, the beds are like boards (my poor stiff back atests to this) and its 200rs per day to hire a fridge, some guests got told off for washing out a few of their smalls(the guesthouse insist on o washing unless you pay them to do it) and worse the week before i came they were charging 40 rps a night for a blanket, some guestd were so insensed that they went out bought their own and will leave them for goans when they leave. oh and they have a locked bookcase charging 5rs a day to borrow the books that guests leave free of charge!
its in a nice area tho. cool\cold early morning sunset and evenings..hot but not that hot in the day..still tan weather . i have to agree with an earlier post tho, goa is just not what it was, its over priced, dirty, often smelly, often uncomfortable, pushy and to think what we paid last august for a 4 star all inclusicve in mexico, full sat tv, fridge , 2 double beds etc etc..and 100 pound less for 2 0f us.for winter sun next time i will definately consider the gambia. oh, and im dreading the flight home, mytravelite, the plane was the smallest iv ever been on..i had a massive briuse where i had to leave my seat to go to the loo during the journey. sorry not to be more optimistic, the sunset is still lovely. a lot of the people are, the food can be great, but i dont think ill be back.
yet another one who doesn't want to back, this is worrying!
that said i've been back a few times and spent a good few months with my lovely other half in candolim last year.... not for me baga, it does feel like the costa del india (where's the mcdonalds / kfc / linekers bar ???!!!)
misterc.
Paying for a blanket, I thought that renting the room and bed for the night would include bedding etc!
and charging for books........can't really put my thoughts on a nice forum like this.
Killing the Golden Goose comes to mind!!
How much more of this insane greed to the Goans think we will put up with? I used to view a lot of the quirks of Goa as charming ... now it is all becoming an annoyance. Don't 'they' realise that I/we take holidays to get a way from everyday stress related issues over here in UK to only be confronted by even more hassle. It is only too clear now that many tourists are now voting with their feet. Any regular visitors to Goa should just put their foot down and say NO, this is all becoming too much.
when we were in Delih in november we were in a really fancy hotel and they charged us 30 rupees for a bucket of ice
Misterc
