Hi all,
I'm planning to take a trip to Goa in Nov 2008.
Can anyone advise best way of travelling from Scotland.
In the past I have travelled with MyTravel and Monarch from Gatwick to Goa with very basic accomodation which I have ditched. I'd like to fly from Glasgow if possible unless I can get a bargain holiday.
I have weeks available to use at Royal Goan Beach Club at Baga/Arpora so accomodation is there.
Another question: when is the best time to go in November? I'm not too bothered if all the shacks are up.... I'm more likely to be using Little Vagator, Morjim for beach life and want to explore inland.
Another point.... I'm going with one of my friends and we are both over 6 foot so leg room is another deciding factor.
Anyone have any recent prices for advance bookings of packages just to get an idea of prices.
Thanks
There are no direct flights from Scotland. If you go charter it is a flight to London and then straight to Goa as you know. To go schedule you have to connect either in Mumbia, Delhi or possibly Colombo. I believe that there used to be a direct flight from Dubai with Indian Airlines on a Wednesday, but I cannot find this now. This meant that you could fly from Glasgow to Dubai, then straight to Goa. Last time I saw this flight it was over £700, and invlolved staying one night in Dubai on the way back. We generally go charter from via london. Tried BA via Mumbai in January and it was awful. They lost our luggage both ways and the entertainment system on the plane broke down both ways. Nightmare!
Personally I hate the charter flights from Gatwick to Goa, especially Monarch. I'm 6'3 and the legroom is pitiful, I'm a human being not cattle!
I realise it may be finding a cheap charter holiday 1* and ditching the accom'.
Thanks anyway for your help.
Try Etihad airline we got a very good price fom heathrow via Abi dhabi to mumbai for December. hope this helps if you need any more info PM me.
Ive flown from Glasgow to Dubai before with Emirates, very good, no complaints. But Dubai was my destination so cant say about flying onto Mumbai from Dubai.
Dont know if its still the same but theres a daily flight leaves about 13.00 hours to Dubai from Glasgow International Airport.
I've flown a couple of times with Emirates via Mumbai and it's an excellent service, though this Christmas we are flying with Lufthansa from Edinburgh flying out on 19th for just over £800.00
23rd to 8th Dec
This is about the max I want to pay!
I just hope that if I book this much in advance they don't change the flights like they did last year due to the change in popularity of Goa.
Who knows?
The other option is to fly Emirates to Dubai from Glasgow and then either Emirates or their partner airline Sri Lankan to Columbo, where they will put you up free for one night in the airport hotel before a Sri Lankan flt up to Goa. I've never priced that way.
When we cost the charter option with the hassle of connecting flights and accom. or the drive to manchester and parking we find Emirates by far the best option, Monarch and their likes wont see us again
Hope thats of some help Alan
As always you are a master of sound info' about Goa. I'll make enquiries regarding flights from Gla'. My brother works in Qatar and swears by Emirates, says thy are one of the best.
Thanks
Neil
I travelled Edinburgh to Frankfurt with Lufthansa, then on to Mumbai.
first choice, or thompson, fin air, we find are nice flights. we personally think monarch is uncomfy and also my travel your feet and legs are cramped, surley its easier to travel to manchester or london then direct or 1 stop flight to goa and in november we go around 3rd to 27th and its usually lovely, and i dont pay 529 for flights i book a holiday and just dont use the accomodation works out cheaper usually we normally pay around 450 max maybe worth a try who knows
flights from glasgow, aberdeen, edinburgh to goa are been offered by southhall travel no wranging from 465.00 and 399.00 from carlton leisure frond these on cheapflights .co.uk so can you only fly from scotland at certain times or something?
We used Southall travel once, it was Jet Airways, the service was fine but the leg room weas inadequate for anyone of above average height, we find the leg room tolerable for the Mumbai Goa sector, but the long haul sector too cramped. the crew let my wfe use one of the crew rest seats in the back as she has long legs. As far as the Carlton Leisure flights on offer via Cheapflights I've found that when you follow them up thers a lot of add ons and the price quoted bears little resemblance to the final quote. Alan
