hi aam you should open a nationwide flexaccount, you will get free cash withdrawals from any cash machine abroad,
i bank with HSBC also get free cash withdrawls in main square icmeler i never take traveller cheques or use a safe
The difference between the Nationwide and HSBC is that the N/W will give you the full Interbank exchange rate whereas HSBC load it by about 2.75%.

Yes I have a Nationwide flexaccount, which is used solely for the purpose of my holidays and using the card abroad. The exchange rates on them are usually very good, altho I did notice last years in Turkey werent as good as some of the other places Ive used it. But its free to use, to withdraw and there are plenty of cash machines around. Definitely worth setting up an account.

Ive used mine all over the world its great, never had a problem. Used it last year in Turkey.
A Nationwide account is a must have, I only use mine for holidays too.
