Strange one this, My wife has always wanted to swim with dolphins. So this year (August) we are off to Florida so she can realise her dream But... she now says she hopes the water isn't too deep as she isn't a strong swimmer!! Anyone been swimming with dolphins? could say non swimmers cope? or is it a requirement that you must be able to swim well? Any replies gratefully received.

You are required to wear a life jacket, so you will be floating not swimming. If she does a 'dolphin encounter' then you are just standing while the animals approach you, either in shallow water or on a ramp at the edge of a lagoon. If it's the dolphin Swim, then you need to be able to swim a short way out to where the dolphins can swim around and come up underneath you- you don't need to be a strong swimmer, kids, handicapped all are catered for and do well. As long as she is confident enough to just make her way out.. oh, about 30ft to where they can approach you.
It is a wonderful day!
Try looking at the Web Sites for Discovery Cove in Orlando and Marineland in Fort Lauderdale. Discovery Cove gets booked up quickly at busy times of the Year
yes,if you going to discovery Cove, book it up early,i know its looks expensive but they treat you so well, the whole family went a few years ago and i treated my mum for her b/day.....she said it was one of the best days of her life.....for a special treat its well worth it plus i think you get 7 days admission to sea world on top,Have a great time.....theres no need to worry about depth of water at discovery cove...look after you so well.....
Thanks for all your replies, I'm sure she will manage. we should have a great time.
Discovery Cove used to do part of the 'experience' in shallow water and part of it in deeper water, but they will give non confident swimmers a buoyancy aid
At discovery cove the main part of the interaction is done in water you can stand in. When it's your turn to 'swim' with the dolphin you have to swim a short distance out to where the dolphin is. (deeper water) One lady in our group (groups are usually 7/8) couldn't swim and did her swim in shallow water.
Rubbish swimmer myself but at Discovery Cove this is not a problem as they give life vests, its a fantastic experience and the lack of swimming expertise is not a bar to enjoying it, go for it!
Thanks to all your replies my wife has now decided to go for it, thank you all for taking the time to give her the confidence.
