Regarding tipping, it's the same as the rest of the US with a minimum of 15% for most things such as meals and taxis. At buffets you should tip a couple of dollars per person. Drinks are free when you're gambling, but you should tip at least a dollar per drink.

Except for porterage where it's usually accepted at $1.00 per bag, unless extremely heavy, then $2.00 per bag.
You only need to tip, where you have received a "Service"some establishments have a tip jar, just for the fun of it, for example, gas stations, small shops, you are not obliged to tip here, but if you have any loose change, and feel it's justified then if you wish put your lose change into the jar.
Tipping is no different in the US, than it is in the UK, although there seems to be a big issue regarding tipping in the US, which frightens most UK visitors.
If you are used to tipping in the UK, then it will not be uncommon who and when to tip in the US.
Most Americans tip out of habit, because it's bread into them, unlike us here in the UK.
That being said, if the UK Customer Service industry followed that offered by US standards, many more UK citizens would be willing to tip.
Now off my soapbox.
Trust the above helps.

are there any general rules for tipping in Las Vegas, particularly the casinos, for getting drinks etc?
I have tipped a dollar per drink at cheaper casinos and also at the posh ones like the Wynne and the dollar at the Wynne was appreciated more
Most of the time if it is the place where I am staying and I intend to spend the rest of the night/morning there then I give $5 on ordering the drinks then a Dollar for each drink brought and this seems to let the waitress remember us.
Sometimes I have tipped $5 or $10 depending on how I am doing gambling.

For comped drinks while playing or ordering drinks at a bar we usually tip $1 per drink or occasionally $3 for 2 drinks.
$1-$2 per drink (or could try $5 for two to get attention = more drinks). I don't use bell boys. $1 for taxi (ie for guy who organises the line outside the hotel. 15% for taxi fare, 15% up for dinner at sit down restaurant. $1 or $2 each for buffet. Supposed to also tip for drinks at a bar though. This one I find a bit strange as we don't tend to do this at home, other than occasional loose changed. $1 per drink apparently to the barman.
To make up for all these $1 bills you're having to give away, I'll tell you some bargains! $1 margaritas (strawberry or lime) and $1 michelob at Casino Royale (beside Imperial Palace and Venetian). 99c Margaritas (lime) at Bills (beside flamingo). O'Sheas do specials too. $5 coupons for Harrah's buffet from the girl dressed up at the door facing Carnaval Court - only during the day usually but valid for any buffet. Also, a book called American Casino Guide, available on Amazon.co.uk has coupons you might like. http://bourie.casinocitytimes.com/americancasinoguide/coupons.htm
Casino Royale is also good for cheap roulette and craps, with good drinks service. It can sometimes be a bit of a dive though. We've probably gambled the most there, the drinks service is always good.
