Lozza - We went to Kamari in Santorini 2 years ago. Although the island was beautiful - and we went round it all on quad bikes - it is neither cheap nor the place to go for partying. We've been to many of the Greek islands and found Santorini to be one of the most expensive. Also nightlife is mainly centred on romantic evening meals- no nightclubs, karaoke, live music bars etc.

Santorini - Perissa & more so Perivalos(sp) seem to be more lively. A lot of young people stay in Perivalos where there are a few music bars. (not sure about clubs) bare in mind that It's not as lively as the more renowned resorts in Greece, in fact It's nowhere near that.
The 2 resorts are next door to each other and you can easily walk between the 2.
As for beaches, well Santorini is a volcanic island so the beaches are black & course sand rather than soft & golden, and get very hot under foot so you will need some sort of footwear.

Mykonos - Never been there so can't comment, sorry but I'm sure some people on here have.

Thanks, that's great to start with. I think from people I have spoken with as well I will now look into accomm at Perissa Beach in Santorini.

We are not totally up for a party holiday, but a bit of beach, sunsets, good dinners etc., as well as a little bit of partying. So it sounds like Mykonos and Santorini might be the best of both worlds?!?! I just wanted to make sure that we don't pick an area with all the honeymooners and grandparents. ;)

All the honeymooners will be in Fira or Imerovigili, families tend to go to Kamari so that takes care of the grandparents!!
I think Perissa is a good choice for what you are looking for. There's also a couple of great 'chill out' bars in there.

Sounds great. Thanks!!

I think from the places I've looked at, I will try and book us into Stelios Place for 3 nights - if anyone knows any reason why we shouldn't...let me know!! (P.S. We're on a budget and staying in hostels for all our travels, so I am aware it's no glamorous 5-star hotel and everything!)

Hi lozza83

For me, lodging in Mykonos town is best. There is a regular bus service to the beaches. Also, to get to Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agriri and Elia beaches you can also take the small caiche from Platys Gialos or Ornos both of which you can get a bus straight to, from the town. It's all an adventure and well worth it too :)

If you can tell me when you are going and also the budget you have for each night I will make some recommendations for accommodation. A lot depends on when you are going to be visiting as the hotel rates on Mykonos vary hugely depending on the month of the year.
