I think some of the most usefull phrases i have learnt over the years have been:

how are you? - nasilsin

i dont know turkish -ben turkche bilmiyorum - .. always get a funny look when u say this one in turkish

i love u - seni seviyorum -(just incase ;P)

i want - istiyorum -

Restrooms: Tuvalet (too-vallet) (With an emphasis on the last "t")

I don't want: Istemiyorum (ees-tuh-mee-your-oom) < (most used while shopping lol)

I don't need: Gerekmiyor (Gah-reck-mee-your)

Leave me alone: Git basimdan (geet- bah-shum-dan)

Help: Imdat (eem-dot)

Good topic, Cas!

A good phrase to learn is how to ask a dolmus driver to stop; I know many of the drivers are used to hearing holidaymakers shout STOP PLEASE or sometimes they'll say DUR, but it's always appreciated when a visitor asks them to stop in Turkish.

Just call out: MUSAIT BIR YERDE INELIM

I always try to learn one or 2 more phrases each time we visit so this thread is very helpful!

One I thought was going to be useful for deflecting hassling resatuarant front men was (phonetically) 'belkey sonra' (maybe later) until I realised they remember you even more and next time you pass they take it you promised to come back later!

'Shekarim' (darling) is a nice word.

I was told 'Lezetli' means 'delicious' - always useful after a meal in Turkey!

I like 'tammam' as well, beleive it only means 'OK' but it's a nice word to pronounce.

Excellent topic. Found this site a few days ago marmaris.org on the right of the page look for learn turkish & click on common turkish phrases. You can also watch video & hear the words being spoken aswell as seeing the word spelt out phonetically. Hey MissFunky, ben de seni seviyorum. Ãƒâ€žÃ‚Â°yi gecele.

Oh & I hope I'm not in trouble for putting marmaris.org on here, only trying to help, I am finding it very helpful.

I only know one word and that is .... YAPMA, it means stop it, i taught my girls this when we went to marmaris last year, it was so funny because this waiter kept stroking my 15year olds hair, she jumped up and shouted YAPMA! the look on the guys face had us all in stitches! :rofl
