i came through gerona airport yesterday with just a carry-on bag, and was stopped at security because i had cigarettes in my bag(only 800). they had spotted them on the scanner!
it transpired that they were checking to see if the packets had the government stamp on them, so they opened one of the cartons to check.
fortunately mine were ok and were for my own use, so it was not a problem.
i have heard in the past that some of the local supermarkets were still selling cigarettes so i suppose this is just a warning to all to be careful where you buy your supplies.
