Hi LizzieMac26
Don't worry about "butting in", it's not really a spat - it's all friendly really

Firstly, the GB£ has dropped around about 15% against the Euro in the last 12 months (source) so you can add 15% on straight away.

As to prices in the tourist areas - you mention Napa so will assume that is where you are headed.

Beer - Keo or Leon (the local brews) last year could be had from 1Cy£ (1.71€) - its €2 this year down by the harbour, up to stupid money in the square. More typical price would be around €2.50- €3.

Coffee - again, it varies enormously - 50c (85c€) for Cyprus coffee to around 1.20cy (~€2) for nes (quick i.e instant).

Again, the cost of food varies enormously too - just like anywhere else. Have a look here for a restaurant review site for Paphos. Yes, I know its not Napa, but it is comparable.

not you 2 again what have we said about disagreeing on this forum, just agree with me and youll be ok :D seriously we went to puerto pollensa last year and had to pay 3e for a pint and more most of the time, food seems to be about the same in cyp or protaras at least, as pp was last year, but the euro and the cost of fuel will have put prices up everywhere, will be interesting to see what the flora bar charges this year, seemed to be amongst the cheapest last year, as for what to take, we all spend differently, take what you can afford and hope to bring some back is my advice, then cut your cloth accordingly when you get there, cyprus is a greart place and the first job is to get there, you will find a way to suit your habits to your budget, enjoy the place and enjoy the banter on here, pubdog ill get the first ones in july, you pick the bar as you know the cheapest place

Thanks for the reply... I booked the Electra Village for a week from June 1st... so looking forward to that now!

It seems that at least a few things (ie: beer, coffee) are as cheap as some parts of Spain, so I'm not panicking! People I have spoken to once knowing we are going to Cyprus suck their teeth and say ''its expensive there you know!'' but most of 'em haven't even been!

Anyone else going the same week as us?

I think what needs to be said to people who say / ask about Cyprus being "expensive" is "its like being in the UK ! Its not like going to somewhere that you can get a beer and a hotdog for less than it costs for a bus ride back home".

We went to Turkey many years ago and alcohol was incredibly cheap in the shops, still cheap in the bars and it was reasonable to get there..... Cyprus isn't "cheap" in that way but its not expensive like going to spend a week on some royal yacht in the carribean...

hi all
we are hoping to holiday on a budget of £1000 for two weeks, we,ll eat in for breakfast, lunch on the beach (bagette and beer shop bought) and eat out for evening meal, we normally buy a litre of wine in the supermarket to have a drink whilst getting ready to go out in the evenings, we use local buses for our transport and do quite a bit of walking to find some quaint places, BUT we,ve not been to cyprus for 4 years so not sure if we can budget the same this year ,having said that we went to corfu last year and spent £1000 in two weeks and that was when we were on half board! im sure we,ll manage we,r just glad to be going , bb61

you spent well last year 1k spend when on half board is some going, you will have to cut back to make 1k on s/c but esp with the exchange rate being 20% down, only you will know whether you can do that but i expect to spend 20% more than last year not because of cyprus prices but because of the euro rate

hi
im hoping the exchange rate will go up a bit before we go, ive noticed over the last few years the rate is always low at the beginning of the season then climbs a bit by middle of june so fingers crossed, and maybe we could get a better rate out in cyprus than back here in the uk im sure we,ll find out once the members reports start coming in now the season has started. bb61

We called in a local estate.. no I'm always doing that ! a local travel agents and while grabbing a few brochures enquired about the days exchange rate. He quoted something around 1.2 but said its going to go down tomorrow (ie today) and we said well it will be up again in a few months when we are ready to do some changing. He was quite sure that it would be falling again and wouldn't start to go up for another year or so ! I guess he was just trying to get us to change money right at that very moment unless he did have a crystal ball ?
