The doors to the ANNUAL FIESA 2008 SAND SCULPTURE FESTIVAL is open to the public on Thursday from 10am onwards until the 22nd October. Over the past 3 weeks sculpture artists from Europe, Brazil & the USA have been moulding the sand into magnificent forms. 60 sculpture artists from around the world have transformed 35 tonnes of sand for this years theme, Hollywood Icons, the star stooded cinema. The exhibition is laid out over approx 2 hectares is filled with towering characters & sets such as King Kong, Casablanca,Star Wars, Alien, E.T., The Wizard Of Oz & The Lord of the Rings, amongst many others. It sounds amazing, & should be a good day & evening out for families of all ages. It is situated between Pera and Algoz if anyone is interested in going. Take the EN125 from Albufeira, past Zoomarine and then turn right at next crossroads (at Pera) approx 500m on the right hand side is the Sand Sculpture Park -car parking is on the left. FIESA 2008 "HOLLYWOOD"
HOLLYWOOD is the theme of the 6th edition of the International Festival of Sand Sculpture in - FIESA 2008, taking place in Pera, Algarve, every day, May 22 and 22 October, between 10.00 and 24.00.
This year the ProSandArt proposes to the visitor a fabulous journey through the most beautiful scenes of films from Hollywood, that this is the world's largest event in sand sculpture, unique in the Iberian Peninsula.
Fiction, humor and fantasy are some of the ingredients we can find represented in sand, and characters well-known throughout the world - Charlie Chaplin, Marlyn Monroe, King Kong, the Marretas and the famous dinosaurs, which will make the delights of small children and adults experience an unforgettable visit.
The construction of this mega-exhibition of sculptures in sand, it starts in May and has the participation of fifty sculptors of various nationalities, and internationally recognized experts in construction in sand. During a month these artists will give shape and body to thirty thousand tons of sand, in an area of fifteen thousand square meters.
The festival also includes a dimension with a playful and creative space for carrying out activities of sculpture in sand, where daily, adults, young children and can test and demonstrate their creative abilities in this form of artistic expression.
In the day admire the sculptures in all their detail and leave at night to seduce a fantastic environment, with a varied program of live music, theatre, dance and performing arts .

It was full of beach stuff, but one of our friends had left a few euros in a purse in her beach bag - of course the money was gone but the funny thing was the purse was in the picnic bag, all zipped up again! So they are pretty thorough. That was when we discovered that the Travel Rent insurance doesn't cover damage to locks (or the interior of the car) but in the end we didn't have to pay. Since then we never leave anything at all in the car and always take the hatch cover off so potential thieves can see there's nothing in the boot.
