Hi Donalk

just read your post out to hubby and said
Look we could go it alone on the Rome leg,
lots do
and he was a little wary of delays and missing the boat
we have quite a few stops before Rome so Im sure he will
be a bit more confident at hopping on and off at ports

Thanks so much for taking time out to help us and advise us
it is much appreciated!

My hubby was dead against DIY for the same reasons. However once we'd done it, he was telling everyone how easy it was and how much we'd (I'd) saved.

In 10 or 11 cruises we have only paid for one organised excursion and that was to Pompeii which was well worth it.

Thanks Donalk. We did exactly your itinery (plus the Spanish steps) on Saturday 7th June, taking the 8.41. We were in St Peter's square at 9.30am! We spent 6 hours in Rome, but walked back from Forum to St Peter's again getting the 3.29 back (leaves 3.09 from Terminii). We walked back to port entrance for shuttle bus, and were back on ship by 4.45 for our 5.30 boarding time. You can get a taxi from station straight to ship if legs too weary!!

Take a hearty brekkie, which will enable you to skip lunch and spend more time exploring. Plenty water, and recommend a 30 minute stop in a cafe/bar to rest up feet for a bit.
