Please be aware that you are only allowed to take 200 cigarettes per person into Thailand.
My wife and I travelled last christmas to Bankok then onto Pattaya. We were worried that we may not be able to buy any English cigarettes on the return journey home so we bought 1000 in manchester airport (even after they checked our final destination) and bought another 400 in Abu Dhabi. On arriving at Bankok our bags were search even before we get to the customs (I have one of those faces) they had obviously radioed through to customs were I was immediately arrested.
I then had to sign a statement admitting my guilt. It was then we were taken to the "tax office" to pay a "small fine" (the customs officer assured me") of £380 and they still confiscated ALL the cigarettes. So if you are a smoker please do not take a chance, stick to the 200 cigarettes allowance
My mate went about 2 years ago and he did the same, took about 1000. when he landed he got searched and taken straight to a cash machine to pay just under £500, then they took the ciggies off him as well
